Another round of chassis
EDIT: You can check our webpage for Dumble-style chassis... available on a first-come-first-served basis using shopping cart buttons at this link: http://cepedals.com/Dumble-Style-Chassis.html
I've also attached the useful hole guide to this first post in the thread.

We're completing another round of 1/8" aluminum welded chassis (which turned into a painfully long process with our fabricator who was backed up through the autumn). Here's a preview of the silver anodized chassis with black lettering. We've received a few from our fabricator (which are already spoken for) but more can be available in a week or two. We didn't have a good idea of the demand for the anodized finish and we have an opportunity to change the mix of black powder coat and clear anodized... please PM me or Brian (Odourboy) to let us know if you want clear anodized (include an email address to contact you)... we need to let the fabricator know next week how to finish the remainder of the chassis.
Thanks (and Happy New Year everybody!).

Re: Another round of chassis
Should have more available in about 2 weeks. Price same as last time, $125 plus $18 shipping in North America. Will include mounting screws, counter-sunk finish washers and optional hole plugs for a couple of the power-tube holes if you need them.DonMoose wrote:Very pretty. Pricing? Shipping?
Right now we need to tell the fabricator how many to get finished in the clear anodized (pictured)... the rest we'll get done in the black powder coat.

Would be fine with either color - have to raise funds, though so don't wait for me - I may have to wait for a subsequent run.
Re: Another round of chassis
The silver anodised looks very cool
For anyone that missed the original run the chasis were very nicely done, I've still got my chasis from the original run that I was hoping to work on over the holiday season, however funds have been very limited lately, and I have had other projects that needed finishing first

A handful of black are available...
We have a handful of the black powder coat chassis available. We notified everybody on the 'wait-list' and have let a couple of days go by, so the remainder are available on a first-come-first-served basis using shopping cart buttons on this page: http://cepedals.com/Dumble-Style-Chassis.html
We should have more coming from the fabricator in a couple of weeks or so, in black and silver and even a few four preamp tube ones.
Thanks for the input on the Silverface quantities everybody!

Re: Another round of chassis
What size are those chassis mount screws?
I seemed to have stripped one out.
Thanks,
Tom

We use Stainless Steel 10-32 x 1.5" oval head screws. PM me.

Re: Another round of chassis
I finally bolted my #124 into its cabinet recently. I would feel more comfortable with the attachment if those black plastic bolthead supports were stainless steel, and ideally a little wider diameter. I noticed some compression of them when I was tightening down.
I also had problems getting the head cab holes to line up, it's quite difficult. I had one screw gall in the chassis nut and had to chase the nut out with a 10-32 tap.
Also I think they would look better in stainless, especially against light colored Tolex, mine is blonde.
Either that or a Fender type chassis strap.
I just might get tempted by another black 4-preamp hole chassis anyway!

Re: Another round of chassis
Yep, s/s to s/s threads will gall very easily. I had recommended that maybe the machine shop should use the zinc coated steel clinch nut instead of the 18-8 s/s one. I lightly coat the first couple threads of the clinch nut with a synthetic engine assembly lube to prevent thread galling.David Root wrote: I had one screw gall in the chassis nut and had to chase the nut out with a 10-32 tap.

Re: Another round of chassis
I didn't think of oil until it galled! Duh!
Re: Another round of chassis
I use "never seize" on street rod front end radius rod ends and other bolt threads that have been chromed to prevent galling of the threads perhaps that could be use in this application.

Re: Another round of chassis
Stainless Steel is a soft metal Rockwell hardness of 2.
It will gall just looking at it. Don’t like to use oil or grease on the threads on an amp chassis.
Bee’s wax works great to lube the threads.
Steve.

Re: Another round of chassis
I've been using this quite awhile on firearm and engine assemblies.
