New S100 Inspired Build
I sold the Weber kit I assembled, but I missed the tone too much. Here is another attempt. Got the TW style Callaham chassis from tenguitars on this forum. Turretboard from turretboards.com. OT from Edcor, Power, choke and assorted other parts from Tubes and More.

Turret board almost done. Just need to swap out some 820 metal oxides with carbon film.

BTW, what de-fluxing spray do you like?

I just use alcohol and Q tips to remove flux.

Re: New S100 Inspired Build
I mix alcohol with paint thinner 50-50 by volume.
Try it Tom, it works faster.
Cheers.

A little more progress:

I will be definitely using the "larry" grounding scheme...

I don't understand why people attach wires to the boards before installing them. I install the board in the amp and cut/strip each wire one at a time to fit how and where I want. I would hate to work in a chassis with that big clusterfuck of wires hanging around..

Hello Cliff. I have done it both ways. It is easier for me to cut and attach the wires after the i soldered them to the board. Just a matter of preference...

Re: New S100 Inspired Build
Note that the builder has attached the wires to the underside of the board. This results in a somewhat neater looking build. It's kinda hard to do that after the board is installed in the chassis. Myself, I prefer eyelets.Cliff Schecht wrote:I don't understand why people attach wires to the boards before installing them. Re: New S100 Inspired Build
Same thought, but I guess it's a matter of personal preference. I often see pictures of pre-wired boards and I don't get it. I can see where it is easier/faster to attach the wires to the board outside the chassis. I've always suspected that attaching the other end of the wire isn't so easy, as each one still has to be cut, stripped, and dressed.Cliff Schecht wrote:I don't understand why people attach wires to the boards before installing them. I freely admit, as an amateur, I don't really care how long it takes me to build an amp. I don't mind cutting wire one piece at a time. I generally get a bittersweet feeling when I finish an amp. I like the thought of having an open project on the bench and finishing means the project is "closed." I'm about to closeout a PTP 5G9. Look for pictures soon!

Here is a little more progress I did on Friday. Just waiting for the OT from Edcor, then I can finish...

A little more progress. I won't solder the rest until I install the Edcor OT:

Hello Mark, forgive my ignorance. Would you elaborate?M Fowler wrote:Edcor OT Looks like a very small MC OT to me?

Maybe I didn't explain myself. The Edcor OT i am waiting for is a 100 Watt 4.2K Primary with 4, 8, 16 Ohm outs for two KT-88 power tubes. I will install it on the opposite side of the chassis of where the Power TR is installed.

Re: New S100 Inspired Build
Well.... It is finally done and I made quite a few changes on the way...
I will draw out a new schematic tomorrow as I am pretty tired right now...
I went for a Dynaco P728s clone transformer with the higher voltage that makes the KT88's sound a bit nicer to my ears. I went for an Edcor 100 Watt output transformer with 4.2K primary. I changed the bright cap from 470p to 390p just like I did on the treble cap. Eliminated the pre-gain pot and replaced it with the appropriate resistors that my ears like. It still sounds and feels bouncy and can get the voxy chime as well as the fendery clean tone we are all used to....
Here you go...

Re: New S100 Inspired Build
Here are the final ones with the cab I got for it. It is a Two Rock large open back cab loaded with a Scumback J75 16 Ohm, 100 watt coil. The amp sounds just I like wanted. Very versatile. It can get Voxy chime, Fendery sweetness, plenty of headroom...
