What's the lowdown in Piher resistors? I've never used em..

They are super old carbon films made in Spain. Warm & smooth & quiet. Piher doesn't make resistors any more, just the trimpots that Dumble used sometimes.

Marshall used them in the early days, plexis, JTM 45s etc.

No way, it's easy. You just have to buy every basketcase you see for 15 years.

I think I have a veritable crapload of these in my stash. They look similar and probably at least 20-years old (time really flies). I never knew they were anything special, otherwise I'd probably not have used so many over the years. I'll try to take some pictures tonight and post them.

I would love to have a couple spare sets here for superlead, if you have them. I have tons of pulls, but nothing to make a super clean build with. I kind of care about that one day. I can't open amps in front of guests as it is now lol

No those are Beyschlag(Germany) and appears to be 1/3, 1/2 & .8W

These are pics of Pihers; although the preamp board has one 150K .8W Beyschlag and the amp has a .8W Beyschlag in the NFB and one the OD entrance network.

Oh neat I have some Piher resistors then. Didn't realize what they were. The ones I have look closer to a 3W resistor though and are mostly used and weird values.

As of now I use Xicon carbon films and don't really have any complaints other than they don't really color the sound too much to my ears. The price is definitely right. They have thinner leads than I'd like but this is also a blessing in disguise sometimes. I'm yet to actually have one fail too so they must be doing something right. I'll use them in the first stage of some of my builds to try to improve the SNR a bit (I mostly use carbon comps but I keep both types on hand just in case).

Cliff, they are most likely 2W. Here's a Piher side by side comparison of 1W vs 2W.
