Re: Just put 6L6's in my D'Lite
I like it. I'd like to A/B it with the 6L6's but this is what life is about, a clean windshield, a tank of gasoline, Dumble in the backline, and a show shine.

Wow! I gotta' try the 6L6s. You nailed the "Robben" sound.

WOW! playing and sound are really nice!
Re: Just put 6L6's in my D'Lite
Thanks for the compliments guys! I have since discovered that, after changing from 6V6 to 6L6's, the impedance changes. So with my 8 ohm cab I needed to run the switch at 16. Sounds even better now! More headroom and louder.
Re: Just put 6L6's in my D'Lite
Well you got me thinking(dangerous). I am using a Hot rod Dekuxe OPT which is a 6l6 amp. I am running 6v6s. Should I be running an 8 ohm load on the 4 ohm tap?

Re: Just put 6L6's in my D'Lite
Greetings,
Isn't this correct:
Note about 2x6L6 valves: With the standard 2x6V6 setup, the primary OT impendance is 8k Ohm and secondaries are 4, 8 and 16 Ohm. However, if one uses 2x6L6, the primary impendance should be 4k Ohm, so by loading the 8 Ohm secondary wiring with a 4 ohm cabinet, the "reflected" impedance of the 8k Ohm primary becomes 4k Ohm.

In my 5 years of intense daily tinkering with this type of circuit, there is nothing better sounding to MY ears about a 6V6 poweer section. For ME, 6L6 is more than just a little better. Get a beefy output tranny and a set of 6L6 tubes. Far superior.... Just my 2C
Re: Just put 6L6's in my D'Lite
Dogears, I agree. I found that EL34s were too grainy for my Sano/dumblelite version, and the 6V6s didn't have the 6L6 full sound. Plus the impedance was way off with only an 8 Ohm tap. The feedback values were changed to 8.2K/1k.
This amp sounds best with a set of RCA 6L6GCs driving the original 15" alnico Jensen. The original sano design used a pair of 6L6s.
Has anyone tried a single 15" spkr with the dumblelite? I personally like the 15" tone, compared to bassman type 2 10" or 2 12" enclosures. Although I may be mixing apples and oranges here, since the 2 10 enclosure is loaded w/jensens, and the 2 12 enclosure is loaded with JBLs.

BobW,
heisthl built an interesting non-HRM amp with a single 15 JBL that is chronicled here: http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2370
He raves about the overtones that jump from that chrome dome 15" speaker. I have yet to hear it in person but, trust his opinion of it. It is, I believe, 2 clean channels - 2 x 6L6 output.

Has anyone tried a combination of a 6L6 and an EL34?
My amp has a dual bias circuit so i might as well use it.
Will let you know...

thanks for the info stelligan. Mine is a different animal, basically a top loaded 6L6 dumblelite w/PAB and OD relays.heisthl built an interesting non-HRM amp with a single 15 JBL that is chronicled here: http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2370

btw, the voltage doubler circuit (using 100uFs) is enough to drive two relays (40mA each) and LED indicators (15mA each). Although the voltage drops to 9.5 VDC w/ both LEDs and relays on, the relay pickup voltage is at 9.1 VDC.
Re: Just put 6L6's in my D'Lite
Using the 1.2A Radio Shack 12.6V xfmr and a regular bridge rectifier topology I can power 3 12V relays simultaneously and the regulated voltage stays locked at 11.94V (7812 regulated). I have to wait to get the 5-pin XLR cable to test the 3 LEDs also.BobW wrote:btw, the voltage doubler circuit (using 100uFs) is enough to drive two relays (40mA each) and LED indicators (15mA each). If you have the same xfmr there is no reason to use the doubler, IMHO.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
