Re: winding output transformer
I have an OT from Merc Mag...for a 5E3 I believe. After lots of testing, I found the OT to be the only component that was problematic.
So I took it all apart to see if I could find an obvious failure. There was nothing I could see.
Now I have the core and bracket...ready to be rewound. If you guys want it, I will sell it for the cost of shipping.
Will post a pic ASAP.
Good Luck
.....Shouldn't I know.??
It came from a friends amp...a 5E3 that he had built. Not 100% positive that the OT was a 5E3 specific build, just something he had laying around.

Re: winding output transformer
Thanks for the offer Hiredhand, but I'll pass. I've got a box of old iron and I don't know shipping across the Pacific Ocean would be really worth it.
Re: winding output transformer
Stupid me. I did not even notice your locale.
Sorry about that...
If any of you other guys want the iron.....just shoot me an email.

Re: winding output transformer
Do you have any concern about that last E-lam bowing up at the edges?

Re: winding output transformer
They are beautiful Sagitt! I see you made up a vacuum unit for varnishing. Looks great and I'm sure it worked well.
My Express transformers I varnished each layer as I wound them, but I am regretting not vacuum varnishing like I did with the previous set of transformers I wound myself. I think it is better for the long term life of the transformer.
Thanks for posting the pics.
