Charlie Wilson wrote:Gil, the glue holding these nuts on was clear, it looks like clear epoxy or crazy glue. The chassis bolts are metric(Germany?) and look a little too fresh for a thirty or so years old amp, I just couldn't believe that the nuts were falling off just by touching them. The thing I really can't figure out though, is the holes on the lower lip of the chassis.

It sounds like the amp was perhaps set up to use the Fender style chassis straps? I forget what the nuts for those are called, but they have the star washers permanently attached to them, thanks to which they're easy to tighten. If those get lost and are replaced with regular nuts, I can see where gluing them to the chassis would help tightening them up.

Cheers,

They're called keps nuts.

OK, so I ended up threading 4" long 10-32 machine screws through both of the existing holes and used a fender washer and keps nut on the underside, Fender style. I think I will add another nut on top of the keps nut for safety. The chassis seems very secure and there was no alteration of the amp. None of the U nuts or G nuts would work with the chassis thickness or hole spacing. Now some intel on what I observed inside the amp.
treble cap-270pf
V2b coupling cap-.056uf
snubbers-350pf
bright cap-220pf
HT taper cap-.02( I measured across the trim pot and it was set to 100k)
OD trim-1 meg  (measured 735k across and 152.2K to ground with amp on in OD mode)
Bass control tail-10k
PI plate resistors-120k and 110k
OT center tap B+454.6V
270k resistors on PAB switch
All three preamp tubes National branded GE
power tubes Sylvania 6L6 biased range of tubes .040mA-.045mA(kinda warm)
I played through the amp and it sounded good. The clean channel was gainy with not much high end and the OD channel was VERY gainy and brown sounding. I hope this stuff helps and I will probably be seeing the amp again.

Hello,
I posted that the bass control tail resistor was 1k but now I am not so sure looking at my photo. It looks to me like 10K? Let me know what you think.

From the photo Looks like Brown/Black/Brown/Red/Gold
that would be a 100 ohm's 2%

Thank you one more time for the D Deluxe I have over 700 hours
of play time on that amp now it sounds like no other with the Gold Klon.

The third band does look brown in the photo but I am pretty sure that it is orange. The attached photo of the deep switch I know has a 10k and they look the same to me. Steve I am glad that you are enjoying the Tweedle Dee. :D

They were packaged as Sprague Q-Line. I think the original manufacturer may be Draloric but don't quote me on that one. :D

Thanks for all the info Charlie. Did you happen to notice what the slope resistor is?

Brown-black-orange-red = 10000R +/- 2% tol., yellow end band means it's flameproof.

Yes as used by HAD (.6W, 1W, 2W) these are basically unobtainum now, pre Vishay (1988) aquired Draloric and made in Germany. It's no accident that he started to use these when most likely he could not obtain Pihers like he had in the past. The early Pihers and these Draloric CF's are similar in materials.

Thanks Mike for the confirmation on the resistors. Bcook, slope resistor is 150k.

Oh yeah, one last thing I would like to add. If you think you wired your Jazz/Rock switch incorrectly because you loose a bit of volume in Jazz mode, you probably didn't. The Jazz/Rock switch in #94 behaved exactly the same as the one I wired in my Low Plate Classic with about 1/3 % decrease in signal. Also, if you want to wire your Deep switch, look at the picture of how Dumble did it.
