What is your labour rate per hour?
Re: Lowest price Dumble clones in Europe?
Since I can't get it for cheap and since I felt kind of challenged here to build one it looks like I'm going to do it.So Metalguy, are you a guy who wants to buy an amp for cheap, or a guy who wants to go into business selling amps for cheap?
Because I did some homework already and not going to start from zero I estimate that I can finish it in 40 days or so which include sourcing the parts, having the chassis done (with face panels), transformers, woodwork and of course several days for assembling the whole thing.
Based on what I learned so far it's going to be a 50W version of #102 without the FET input (but will include the resistor in order to simulate the voltage drop).
Depends on what I'll be doing. I can charge for a piece or per day but in general I'm good with around 50E per day. What is your labour rate per hour?

Hi metalguy
6PS Orange Drops,
2KB potentiometer,
2.2uF tantalum capacitor.
40 days. Good luck with your build.
Lars
Almost... you´ll have to find another supplier for:
6PS Orange Drops,
2KB potentiometer,
2.2uF tantalum capacitor.
40 days. Good luck with your build.

You're right. I'll need to order the rest of it from here for example:

Thanks but the clock is not ticking yet.40 days. Good luck with your build.

Metalguy, where is it you are located in EU?
Re: Lowest price Dumble clones in Europe?
In the Eastern part.

Why be coy? This is a pretty international group, with membership from around the globe.

This ain't a whodunnit, it's a whereliveit
Only instead of the 39 Steps, it's (now) the 39 Days!

Re: Lowest price Dumble clones in Europe?
And why not introduce some mistery? Since many requested to see a build let's do that first and then we'll have small talk as well. Why be coy?
By the way should I start a separate thread about the build or just post here?

That type of mystery holds no interest for me. Re starting a new thread, I suggest you report your progress here. Per the thread title, maybe you will be able to lay claim the lowest priced D clone in Europe when you finish.
Re: Lowest price Dumble clones in Europe?
While this discussion was going on I did some preliminary research and home work drawing the chassis and ordering stuff.
Let’s set the goal first. It’s going to be a 50W version of #102. Since this will be a “work out”, educational project and in order to hit the deadline the “pretty” and “mojo” factors will be secondary. I haven’t decided on the FET input yet but left space for two input jacks just in case which I can later wire as High/Low Marshall type inputs.
I also decided to make it the “regular” way - a “standup” Carol Ann type of look.
Most parts will be here in a week or so.
PT will be from the local transformer shop. Unfortunately they currently don’t have the right size M6 steel for the Bassman type OT so I ordered a Hammond 1760L Upgrade.
While waiting for the parts to arrive I started with the eylett boards. I got those silver plated military grade eyletts from Ebay long time ago for other purposes but they look right for such a build.
For the boards I took a piece of 2mm double layer fiber board. It took me a while to peel the copper foil off but it wasn’t such a pain after all.
As you can see I did some changes to the layout namely the bias circuit, HV diodes and relays PSU will be on the same board. It just doesn’t make sense to me to waste space and use large axial caps for that only for the mojo sake.
Next report will be after I get the chassis and some parts.

Re: Lowest price Dumble clones in Europe?
In my opinion, the FET input is required to make single coils work well with this circuit. YMMV.
Electronic equipment is designed using facts and mathematics, not opinion and dogma.
Re: Lowest price Dumble clones in Europe?
In essense, you challenged existing clone amp builders that you could build a competitive product for much cheaper and relatively faster, from whenever you are located.....LOLmetalguy wrote: Let’s set the goal first. "Work out....educational project" certainly negates the challenge build of an amp in the vain of something possibly presentable enough for sale in 40 days, in certainly the context of producing a competitive product.
The way that you talked up your capabilities we were looking forward to a full blown, full featured "clone" build and something presentable for sale, not an academic build for the sake of expediency.
This project management triangle never fails: Time, Cost and Quality......pick any two.
Good luck with your educational project.

Re: Lowest price Dumble clones in Europe?
I'm still scratching my head over the evolution from the thread title and opening post, which appears to be from someone with no interest in building (or even the capability to build) looking to buy a finished D clone at the lowest possible price. The understandable response from the group was beware.
Re: Lowest price Dumble clones in Europe?
I never said this one was going to be for sale. Everyone who builds electronic equipment knows that you build at least one piece of something or a prototype before you can offer anything directly for sale. At least I would prefer to proceed this way so I can assess how much time it will take and what the final cost would be but according to my preliminary calculations I can kill Ceriatone prices (nobody pointed to a lower one so far) without any problems. However I won't have their output capability per month.
I've looked at the guts of amps from well known names and I can assure you that I can do better than some but for this first one this is not of my immediate concern.
Feel free to make any comments and criticize every step of the process - I never said I was the best builder and/or that I don't make mistakes.
Since I couldn't find the lowest price to my liking I decided to build one myself.
If moderators consider all this suspicious or else they can delete or lock the thread.
