Fender Deluxe 5E3 with tremolo
There is a way to add a tremolo circuit to a Fender deluxe model 5E3?.
Someone has already done?.
thanks

Re: Fender Deluxe 5E3 with tremolo
There are a lot of 6V6 cathode biased amps with tremolo using a concertina (also referred to as cathodyne) phase invertor similar to 5E3
The nicest sounding tremolo I've ever heard was a DanElectro Centurian using a 6Au6. It's concertina phase invertor and cathode biased. http://el34world.com/charts/Schematics/ ... an_275.pdf
Sears Silverton is concertina phase invertor and cathode biased also using a 6AU6
http://el34world.com/charts/Schematics/ ... ne1482.pdf
Ampeg is concertina phase invertor and cathode biased 6V6
http://el34world.com/charts/Schematics/ ... 2b_jet.pdf
Vox Pacemaker is concertina phase invertor and cathode biased (but uses EL84's)
http://el34world.com/charts/Schematics/ ... emaker.pdf
Gibson Falcon is concertina phase invertor and cathode biased.
http://el34world.com/charts/Schematics/ ... -19RVT.pdf
Gibson Zephyr is concertina phase invertor and cathode biased
http://el34world.com/charts/Schematics/ ... zephyr.pdf
Princeton 6G2 has some similarities to a 5E3 Deluxe with phase invertor but has fixed biased
http://el34world.com/charts/Schematics/ ... _schem.pdf
Vibrolux 5E11 has some similarities to a 5E3 Deluxe but is also fixed biased

Lots of choices.

Re: Fender Deluxe 5E3 with tremolo
Thanks , I have a 12AX7 I can use! , 1/2 triode tremolo circuit is a good start ,.. let the other half triode unuse is a problem?

Re: Fender Deluxe 5E3 with tremolo
Hi , I tried to wired your scheme today, but don't work , compared to 6g9 vibrato , seems to me the negative voltage on depth pot is missing.( in the schematic lug is on ground!)
Neg voltage is required or not?

Are you saying that you tried wiring this up in the last hour (when I posted the schematic)? That was quick.Hi , I tried to wired your scheme today, but don't work
I know the 6Au6 tremolo works great because I've wired that into several amps including a 6L6 cathode biased amp and it even was able to give tremolo with 6L6's.

Re: Fender Deluxe 5E3 with tremolo
Yes, I tried your last scheme with 12ax7!
Re: Fender Deluxe 5E3 with tremolo
That circuit is drawn wrong. Pin 7 should connect to pin 1 and pin 6 should connect to point "B". Make those simple changes and the trem should work.
There would only be negative voltage on the depth pot if you are feeding a fixed bias power amp. The depth pot will have a ground connection if it feeds into a cathode biased amp.

Thanks Sluckey! Edited and corrected.

Re: Fender Deluxe 5E3 with tremolo
For inspiration 5E9 & 5G9 schematics. Or simply build 5E9-a and be really happy?

Re: Fender Deluxe 5E3 with tremolo
ok.... , the 250K pot is a rev-log type like 3M3 pot?

Re: Fender Deluxe 5E3 with tremolo
The intensity pot is 250K linear.
Re: Fender Deluxe 5E3 with tremolo
Interesting. I was building this amp, a Deluxe with added tremolo for a customer, and ran into a few demos on YouTube of the 5G9. I asked the customer to take a look at the video and he got back to me, 'Build the 5G9!' So I did and it remains his favorite amp years later. It's 22 watts vs. the Deluxe's 12 watts and with swappable recifiers it can cover a lot of ground. But I guess if you have the Deluxe already built, this could be a plus.
I have a Silvertone Medalist, a dual (two output trannys) Class A, four 6L6 amp that uses a 6AU6. This trem is fairly bullet proof and driving 30 watts. But, at least in my case, you do have to keep a foot switch in the on/off jack (switched to off) if you want the trem completely out of the circuit. Which causes me to suggest the Weber 'Double Deluxe' chassis and shoehorning in another 12AX7 for the trem. This might be an exciting amp in my world...

Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?
Re: Fender Deluxe 5E3 with tremolo
So, .................. did you get your tremolo working? And if so, how do you like it?

Re: Fender Deluxe 5E3 with tremolo
Many years ago built a 5E3 Mission kit. It did one thing well, but not my thing. Friends variably agreed it was fun, for about 10-15 minutes.
Comparing 5E3 & 5E9-a schematic/layout showed small set of straightforward changes, albeit sans tremolo. Tie both cathodes together, add a few resistors and remove/swap out capacitors, and in the process rearranging the signal flow. So that's what happened. One friend who'd been on search for a tweed then "borrowed" it, eventually compensated my costs, etc. as he wouldn't return it.
When set up and pushed gets close to that raw ratty "cathodyne outta control" 5E3 sound, but not really. Has a whole palette of other colours, all warm interesting. Adding oscillator also straightforward as it's just another 12AX7 completely off to the side except sharing B+ with and injecting wobble at the shared cathode on PI. Never took challenge retrofitting as it required another noval and two potentiometers, and the chassis was full. Building from scratch, that wouldn't be a problem. The cathode-follower "driver" triode seems helpful vs a single triode oscillator.
5G9 another amp altogether---more transitional, fixed bias & long-tail PI. Played a reproduction, I believe Victoria. Great sounding amp, but not the tweed tone between my ears.
There are examples of both on youtube, some with fairly good audio. Suggest taking a listen.
