Hole in celestion blue cone
Hi all, i just purchased a used celestion blue on reverb.com and it came today. It was advertised as mint. I took it out of the box today and there was this small hole near the edge of the cone. I paid $200 for the speaker plus shipping. What should i do about this? Should i return it?

Hole isn't big enough to fuss about. Press it closed and superglue it.
But make sure you plug it in and play it before you give the OK.

Experience is CA glues harden fairly brittle. Something like https://www.simplyspeakers.com/speaker- ... -1291.html might be better long term.

Re: Hole in celestion blue cone
Elmer's is a PVA similar to that "official" speaker adhesive. No idea if there are additives in one or another that make either better or worse.

It’s such a small hole, the glue doesn’t need to flex. Don’t over think it.

Re: Hole in celestion blue cone
I've used watered down Elmer's to make patches with soaked pieces of paper towel. If you have enough paper to glue, just use the Elmer's. Otherwise, you could make s small patch. That being said, I'd get some money back or send it back rather that fuss with it, especially if resale is a potential.
Re: Hole in celestion blue cone
If this is a brand new speaker, I'd return it.
While the hole is not significant and a paper towel and glue patch will fix it, that just seems wrong for a purchase of that dollar amount.

Agreed... Maybe you get some $ back for your time to make it right.
Elmers and hemp rolling papers are an excellent patch... don't ask how I know.
Ian - Thanks for posting that link. I'll try that.

Puncture wound from a screwdriver or mounting stud bolt (Fender, etc). I'd try it first after
contacting the seller. If it makes any noises (doubtful), negotiate or return it. While that hole
isn't that big, it is on the edge of the frame underneath. It will flex a little, and over time
will grow from use. Either patch it with glue/paper towel/toilet paper/etc or send it back.
I would go with trying to push the hole edges together and glue it with Elmer's.

Re: Hole in celestion blue cone
Well, i ended up getting 65 dollars back, bringing the whole purchase cost to $150. I pushed the paper bak through and used some watered down elmers glue. I think it should be okay, ill take a quick pic to see if anyone thinks i should do anything else.
