Triad Magnetics SP-118 Inductor
After a lot of back and forth dicussions with Triad Magnetics (a chap called Teri) about the infamous inductors used by Dumble on the early SSS circtuis they are finally advertising the SP-118 again. Unfortunately these are not being massed produced. The only way to get one is to place a min order of USD 100 (7 inductors) for those in USA and USD 200 (14 inductors) for those elsewhere in the world. Manufacturing time is a bit long and the inductors are pricey and the shipping estimated is June 2018.

If anyone is keen to get a bulk of those I'd be down for a couple but really cannot justify getting an order for 14 and paying USD 200 plus shipping plus taxes...

I thought the consensus view was that the SSS inductors are like male nipples--not functional, just aesthetic. If a group buy happens, the price isn't too dear, but is there really a thought that there is something we are missing from the right inductor or an undiscovered circuit change?

The schematics floated here suggested an inductor in the 300 mH range. A 3H value in will have some effect at the upper end, 2-3 dB at 5-6 kHz. I suggest trying a Deluxe Reverb power supply choke in this location. I measured one I have (a Hammond) at 2.6H at 1kHz.

Yes, #002 and most likely #004 had the SP-118 (300 mH). I'm somewhat sure the Inductor idea was from the Gibson Varitone from 1961 1.5 Henry Inductor was used.
That said I have had better results using a higher gain EF86 with no Inductor pin 9 input pin 6 bass and treble switch input.
One more point on the Treble switch you will need a 4m7 blocking resistor on each of the switch contacts or you will get a pop when switching
as in this video.

Perhaps there suppressing RF & parasitics? The Triad data sheet is difficult to read, SP-118 looks like it says 3H. For a 300mH inductor the effect is negligible.

Pulled image & zoomed in, pushed contrast etc, and reads (to me) with a decimal point as ".3H 4mA 42 Ohm DCR". The decimal also lines up vertically with the others. In that initial post the Triad component URL content also states "Inductor Wirewound 300mH 300Hz 3Q-Factor 4mA 40Ohm DCR RDL".

EDIT: Triad just confirmed that the original is indeed 300mH

That’s the conclusion I came to, from a closer look at the Triad catalog sheet and the other linked site. With that I’m back to eliminating the inductor, since it basically does nothing.

For the inductor users, I was going through the spec sheet of SP-128, which is similar to the SP-118 but 0.1HY instead of 0.3HY (attached)
Side one is the inductance 0.1HY 5mA (left with the font facing) and side two the DC resistance with 15ohms (right with the font facing).
My question is, shall side 1 be connected to the 100K ohms resistor and side 2 to the low filter?
