#102 Layout (update)

Post by talbany »

Here is my updated layout of 102 which has one change?
180k replaces the 150k OD master attenuation resistor. The sonic impact this has on the amps response could include
1. A slightly darker(smoother) top end
2.A slight drop in volume requiring higher OD volume setting
These being the most obvious? (Your mileage may very)

As far as I know at the time of this post the rest of the amp is correct after the Skyline update. (see files section)

Enjoy

Tony

Thank you Tony.

Can I have some background on why this change has been made? I'm on the #124 build and I would love to learn more

I can't say for certain why Dumble did it on Robbens amp? I have heard of him using it in other non-HRM's? but if I had to guess it was more than likely a specific tone mod he did to suit the taste of a particular player to tame a shrill top-end and smooth out the OD would be my guess. BTW. I I've been using this mod in my low plate classic now for several years and it's still there.

Hope this helps!

It helps a lot, Tony. Thank you. I'll put it on the list of things to try for the future.

Hope you well

Hi Tony,

At the time #102 was revealed one of the actual insider said: "Resistor feeding from the .005 OD2 cap is 150K and not 180K".
Also Brandon from Bludotone: "100K Feeding Drive pot, 150K feeding Ratio Pot"
Is this your personal observation or from someone who has been there?

Hello Erwin
Yes I am aware that Brandon quoted 100k/150k (Thanks)
Also this is not my personal observation but comes from very reliable source I trust or I would not have changed the layout.

Hope this helps

Let me ask, do you want to update it more based off the photo?
Such as 4.7k power tube grid stoppers, effective 35uf screen filter?

Maybe a good question is: eventually when?

#102 went through little mods since 1982/1983. Robben himself says that he went back to HAD shop soon after he got the amp and HAD did some changes.

If you consider that to change that resistor degoop and regoop is needed, either the 150k has been put back before Brandon measured it (during classic to skyline conversion?) or the 180k mod has been made after Brandon (and very probably not made by HAD), or someone is wrong..

my .02
Teo

p.s. To avoid confusion I suggest to have layouts of #102 and other amps dated with the years the layout is supposed to be valid.
