Where to get circuit board meterial?
Where is the best place to get circuit board material? FR-4 without any copper clad to use with eyelets and binding post? Fish paper like used with old fender amps?
Re: Where to get circuit board meterial?
Mcmaster-Carr has several different grades of Garolite. Different sizes also, 1/16 and 1/8 inches thick. I think the prices are great.

Just don't buy the black FR4. I'm having a problem with it being conductive.

Mcmaster-Carr has a $250.00 minumum order.

I have a $35 order from them arriving today.
Re: Where to get circuit board meterial?
I just placed a $30. order with MC last week. The Garolite was delivered the next day. They did not mention anything about a minimum order.
Re: Where to get circuit board meterial?
This Garolite is a plastic. Wouldn't it be better to use fiberglass? I am thinking about making my own using fiberglass resin and fiberglass cloth sandwished between 2 pieces of glass with pennys around the edges to control the thickness. It would be very inexpensive. Then use brass eyelets like used in women's belts for the solder eyelets. What do you think?

Talking about a scratch build LOL

You must be looking at the wrong stuff. Garolite G10/FR4 is fiberglass.austinb wrote:This Garolite is a plastic.
It's kind of a pain to cut, unless you have a bench cutter or bandsaw. You can buy pre-cut pieces from a number of people like Ken Watts at turretboards.com

Life is short. If laying up GRP makes you happy, do it.
For me, it just makes me itch.

I use a tile cutter (wet). Cheapy portable unit works great, with no airborn glass dust.jaysg wrote: It's kind of a pain to cut, unless you have a bench cutter or bandsaw. You can buy pre-cut pieces from a number of people like Ken Watts at turretboards.com
Now, drilling is a different matter.
Re: Where to get circuit board meterial?
I bought a supply of board material from McMaster Carr a while back, and it is great stuff. They have many different types. And they deliver faster (in NJ) than I have ever seen!

If you are going to go the McGyver route then go to the local dump and cut up some material from an old fiberglass bath tub or shower stall and use that.
My suggestion is just get some material from a supplier. There are so many people selling the stuff you have many sources. I get mine from Turretboards.com but you have options.

How about Lexan?
I just bought a small sheet to play with.
If it can take the heat, then I think a clear lexan board would look very unique.

Re: Where to get circuit board meterial?
Not sure about that but solder flux and burn marks won't be very attractive.
