The easiest way for me to remove the solder on these turrets have been with desoldering wick. A temperature selectable soldering iron where you can raise the temp really helped me also.

Thanks, Steveo. I've got both and still have trouble sucking all that stuff out of the center of a turret. I reversed the V1B cathode cap but am going to punt the other two and do the rest correctly and just see how it goes. I can always change them later.
Just plug it in, man.

they just sound better the correct way.. they won't make or break the amp.. caps just sound different depending on which way you orient them.. and one of these two ways your ears and hands will like better. its not a huge difference. . just if your trying to squeeze everything you can out of the circuit.

Mr.Carlson did a video on the subject, I think it's pretty informative.

Interesting video. How do you determine orientation if you don't have an o-scope?

Connect the cap across the input of an amp, hold it in your fingers, and listen for the difference in hum level.

I could read the difference was more noticeable with a tube amp but still it remains somewhat very (too) subtle for me. Please, let us know about your experiments.

I ended up reversing all the ones I put in backwards after all. I had to clip two out and replace them, but I think it will be worth it. Whether I'll be able to appreciate the difference might be another story.

I found a more comfortable way to do this was using my daw - https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 94#p409994

Hmmm. There's a business opportunity - three terminal capacitors. Take an ordinary epoxy-dipped wrapped foil cap; wrap a layer of copper foil around it, with a wire lead coming out; dip it again in pretty-color epoxy, and label it with something like "Hyper-blast Mega-foil!!!" and do a blinding marketing blast about the blatant, yet subtle advantages of three-terminal capacitors.
Hmmm ......... I think you arrived late

It can't hurt, and might help, now that you know how you should orient the caps for future repairs and builds. I wouldn't bother tearing anything apart, the differences are miniscule and just think of them as "character".

Now go plug your amp into dirty wall power, plug your 20-foot cable, through unshielded guitar wiring, into your buzzy pickups and have a good time.
Use your head.
