Baby express in the roundhouse

Post by romberg »

Just need to connect all the "dots" with wire and fire her up. This little 4-4-0 is the
first amp I've built not from a kit. The chassis is a little rough as I'm too cheap to buy hole punches :).

Right now it is totally hiss and hum free and pretty low gain. :)

I'll post some clips after it is wired up.

Got the board populated. So, it is now one step closer to being either an amp or an electric squealing machine.

Got the heaters wired up. Sorta tried to keep it similar to pictures I've seen here:

Since it is painful to go back and redo heaters, anyone notice any glaring problem with this?

Thanks,

Mike

Which Edcor PT are you using? I've one with the 245-0-245 for an AC30TB/Rocket kinda thing and hope to use it soon. Curious to see how yours turns out and mine too, eventually.

I'm using the XPWR013-120 which is 255-0-255 @125mA. Kinda overkill for this little 2 watter. But leaves some room if I wanna add another octal tube in the future.

Another power tube would be a better match for the OT (CXP10-MS-10k). But I think I'm kinda pushing my luck space-wise as it is. So, I'll think about that after things are stable with 2 watts.

Awesome to know. For some reason I was always afraid they were more of a HiFi thing. :?

The OT I have came with screen/ultra-linear taps. I'm just gonna coil those up and set 'em aside. They do have OTs without the taps and some are listed as compatible replacements for guitar amps. I just needed one with as much primary impedance as I could get for the 6SN7.

Mike

P.S. I too am glad to hear that they sound good for guitars! :)
