Shipped a guy my Badcat Cub and now it's screwed up.

Post by jcat5503 »

I shipped a guy my Badcat Cub II. It's the Samson era one with the focus/spectrum switch.

He says that when you strike a chord it makes a loud crackling/buzzing with lots of static.

I'm assuming its power tubes? Maybe the took a hard hit during shipment?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers!

Bummer man, sounds like it took a shot at the hands of UPS :(

He could start by swapping ONE tube at a time and listening for the crackling artifacts. Work through the amp. If all tubes check out and no smoking gun, assuming he returns it and assuming you are able to (meaning have the know-how and experience) take voltages on every tube (plate, grid, and cathode). Don't be tempted to change anything before making a full assessment and stepping back to evaluate.

Good luck!

You know, I've had that same type of noise happen when someone used a different guitar cable - the tip was small and the input jack needed to be retensioned. Could be a lot of things.

Has he tried the simple things like wiggling the cord and checking that the tubes are well seated?

Did you remove the tubes for shipping or leave them in their sockets?
