Hi. Is it possible to use car vinyl for covering an amp instead of tolex? I want a carbon white, but i can only find it in vinyl.

Tolex is a trade name for a flexible, waterproof, (you guessed it) vinyl material.
If its the look you want, I'd say go for it.

Re: Vinyl for amp covering
Thank you. Does it need a clear coat on top?
Re: Vinyl for amp covering
You can use any vinyl but if you bump and tear, ding, whatever, the vinyl-cloth backing shows through. So if you use black , it should have a black cloth backing, If you go White , it should have a white backing. That way your amp wont have different color scuff and such. Looks nice longer.

You do not need to clear coat vinyl.

You can even use wall paper, or ribbon.
Or sheetmetal...

Is it gonna be difficult to apply?

not hard to apply, lots of great demos on youtube and info on the internet.

Id say dont do it.
I tried years ago - seems a cheapo alternative - but the stuff gets scraped and dinged and a year or so later your prize looks like it just fell out of a hobo's pickup.
vinyl: 10$ material and a lifetime of sucking
tolex: 26$ material and lasts forever.
up to you.

I would prefer tolex, its just that its not possible to get the carbon look in white. the product i was thinking is this type https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFq_mJ7nMdE I would probably put in on top of a layer of tolex
