Want to build an Express
Hi everyone,
I've built a few amps so far. Mostly Marshall and AC circuits. I can't believe it's taken me this long to discover Trainwreck. I'm very interested in building an Express. I see Ceriatone offers a clone, as well as RJ Guitars. Just wondering where else would be good for sourcing parts in the US?

In my experience, you can't go wrong with RJ's offerings.

Go with RJ, for sure. He's contributed a ton to understanding and preserving the TW lore here. He also provides high quality parts, chassis, and transformers. Shoot him an email.

I would also agree with getting in touch with RJ. All of his components are top notch and he is fantastic to deal with.

Just spoke to him a few weeks ago, he has complete sets like what you are looking for. Also, I cannot recommend a better source!

Re: Want to build an Express
I've contacted RJ. Sounds like he can supply the materials for a build. Now I need to decide what to build. I really thought I wanted an Express, but after watching Pete Thorn's video about the Liverpool, I'm really torn. Love the tones he's getting!

Re: Want to build an Express
Build a Liverpool if you like the EL84 chime and tone and cathode bias. The Express has the chunkier EL34 tone and fixed bias response. I have both and they each bring their own thing to the table.
Re: Want to build an Express
Does RJ still have a webstore? I thought he was no longer offering TW kits and such? I remember I kept looking over the store but when I went to buy one, it was closing up or something?

I know that he has kits worth of parts on the shelf. Send an email request.

Traded emails a few months ago and he's still open, though way less full-time than back a decade ago.

Colassal accidently built me this very amp but we decided that it could be better. After I deleted all the stuff we imagined, it is identical, and it sounds and operates identically to that amp. It looks so much better though!Ledvedder5150 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 3:35 am I've contacted RJ. Sounds like he can supply the materials for a build. Now I need to decide what to build. Chante used to belong to 2tone. He confirmed the values I ended up with. Here is the link down the page:

Re: Want to build an Express
I was in contact with RJ back in August, but I had to step away from building for a bit. Now I'd like to get back at it. I contacted him again a few months ago, but he hasn't replied. Any other sources for parts for a build? Express or Liverpool?

Send him another email. I know he is shipping parts and kits.

Re: Want to build an Express
Sorry to be slow to answer. I've been consumed with a major construction project going here and haven't been online for a while. Finally have passed some of the work on to a contractor and getting caught up on emails now. Looking forward to getting a build or two done for myself... hopefully not to far in the future. rj
