LARGE 6V6??

Post by zozoe »

G'day.... Has anyone ever seen 6V6's that are this tall (see pic)....? The amp's maker, but not the previous owner, said the amp performed well with them, & they could be Chinese oddballs.... They're totally unmarked, and the one on the far right, or on top, is my standard sized Tung-Sol 6V6....
many thanks ॐ💃

More then likely Russian made I would say.

The Chinese would never waste money / send profit down the drain by using extra glass to make a tube.

If they are totally unmarked, what would make you think that they are 6V6?

Try measuring how much heater current they draw. My guess is that it’ll be more like 0.9A each than 0.45A :)

ONLY because it's what the amp calls for, and that I bought it from the builder, RC Davis, but he wasn't the last owner... He said it works well, but I wanna stay on the side of another owner's errors, and give it what's truly called for..... ॐ💃

Looks like a Russian 6P3S (6L6 derivate)

some pics from top will help.. can be yes 6P3S, this is thenclose to 6L6 (not GC version) or 5881 tube - 19W dissipation, slight overkill for 6V6

RCA set up a valve production facility and provided training for the Soviets in 1937. So rather than being a derivative / reverse engineered 6L6, the 6P3S (or at least what became the 6P3S) may have been a fully licensed / approved 6L6

They would then be a 6L6B and the in line exit of all the internal leads limits the voltage that can be placed on them without arcing.
