Re: cabinet / enclosure design software
There is a lot of information out there in the hifi world about tuned cabinets that is worth investigating to my mind. I have a few of the programs you likely came across and have long toyed with making some tuned cabs but have just not put the time in and actually done it. I did some reading, bough...

Re: Gibson GA40T Les Paul Schematics

Re: Lower b+ plexi build
Hello again I have my amp up and running (without the switchable masters, I do not have the resistors I need for the PPIMV's) and it sounds pretty good so far. Hope to get the switching finished on the weekend and will post a few clips shortly. Seems to compress pretty nicely vs some of my other amp...

oops..
working too late tonight and got careless drilling a hole to mount the board "why is this so hard to drill?" he thinks as he is not noticing he is drilling into the bottom of the OT. I had 3 bolts and standoffs mounted on 3 corners of the board and was drilling the 4th through a hole in the board so...

Re: Lower b+ plexi build
I'm bored at work babysitting something on the CNC today thinking about how I am going to rout the supply for the switching on this amp.. I think I may have a Skipz circuits chsw board that might be an easier solution to this problem Since I am on my phone right now, its hard for me to look at a sch...

Re: Lower b+ plexi build
Thanks David - I kind of figured I might come up short that way. I saw posts about the Colossal boards before and bookmarked the page on his site but have the Hoffman on hand. I will be picking some up for future projects and support the local talent :) But for this one I'll likely drive by Frys and...

Re: Lower b+ plexi build
Great comments everyone.. made more progress soldering yesterday 2 dumb questions 1. as I build my head shell - the small box plexi plans I see floating around show 1/2" birch ply but I see other comments saying 5/8". 1/2" seems thin in terms of the corner rounding etc, not much material left once y...

Lower b+ plexi build
I've read posts here over the past few years of people praising the virtues of a lower b+ plexi - Reeltarded, Jana and others come to mind I've started a 50 watt build where I was thinking I might play around with this a bit. I am thinking low voltage b+, low filtering, dual switchable ppimv's and a...

Re: amp coupling to guitar
Worst case is maybe I will get lucky and using the meter will chase the ghosts and gremlins out of my builds, and I will not have to spend so much time chopsticking - ha ha

Re: amp coupling to guitar
Hey Structo thanks for the link. I should have looked yesterday at more places as I dropped 4x that much on a meter from lessEMF.. oh well. STill not all that expensive. I guess if I fail as an amp builder now I can at least become a ghost buster....... ha ha http://www.ghoststop.com/EMF-Meters-Ghos...

Hey Bruce thank you for taking the time to reply. Its cool that you are posting here.. FYI. I hope you will continue to contribute. There are a few pretty smart folks here to say the least. Re: amp coupling to guitar
Thanks for the quick reply Amp does have shielded grids and other wires in sensitive places but I never thought to try pulling tubes to see how loud it is that way at least not since first fire up and at that point I was more worried about smoke or shorts etc not a bit of hum. It is essentially the ...

amp coupling to guitar
I have recently built a bigger 100 watt amp (SLO style High gain) using beefy transformers (Magnetic components "project" PT with 3" core and matching output transformer) and find it is really prone to guitar hum when I am close to the amp with my guitars - I know this hum/proximity effect is normal...
