Re: failed diode / PT question

Just checking; do you have the PT center tap *and* the diode bridge connected to ground? I believe that would do it.

Re: 1.5W top boost-style amp

Glad it's sorted out! I had a hummy trem a while back, and it's because I had a ground loop (the footswitch jack was grounded to the chassis and to the ground bus). I disconnected the wire from the ground bus, and the hum went away. Good luck with yours, and congrats on sorting it out!

Re: Fender Super-Sonic 22 (head) Export Transformer

It appears, from the drawings, that there isn't a 120v option. You might be able to find a 120-240 transformer to step up the 120. I would imagine that would be cheaper/easier than getting a whole new PT.

Re: Any advice ?

Just to clarify: Was this built by Amplified Nation, or parts from AN built by someone else? I know Taylor at AN is a member here, and will hopefully chime in. Either way, I'm sure someone here is willing to help figure your problem out if you're confident enough to poke around in your amp. Good luck!

We have a local graphics company that does that. Places like trophy shops might do it, too.

And the Packers! Don't forget the Packers!

Re: What amps use the HOT!! cement resistors and zeners?

The old Crate Vintage Club series used something similar, although they did appear to have a dedicated winding. They just used much smaller value resistors, but if memory serves me correctly, they got HOT. Forgive me if this isn't what you were looking for exactly.

Yep! If someone else wants to chime in to be sure my math is right, I'm sure that would be appreciated, too!

As an aside, and I'm not trying to make a sales pitch, but I have a ridiculous amount of speakers, if you want to go that route. No pressure!

Re: Benson - Vinny 1 Watt amp

Thanks for sharing! Don't know if you tried it or not, but if you use a 4 ohm speaker, that'll get you closer while you shop for OTs. Edit: Come to think of it, an old 3.2 ohm radio speaker would get you pretty much spot on (it'd reflect something like 10k to the primary, which is pretty darn close ...

Re: Field Coil speaker

This is where the hum canceling comes from that you mention. Just wanted to chime in on this; some field coil speakers do indeed have a separate hum-bucking coil. It's wired in series opposing the speaker voice coil and is wound as part of the field coil. It is meant to counteract the hum produced ...

Re: Resistors for the rest of us

Big royal ohms are great, have been very happy with them, but wish they came in a few more values. Yeah, I'm already modifying my build. I was supposed to use 220k in my PI, but RO only has 200k and 240k. I did happen to find a couple 240K that were only about 236k. I suppose 7% is close enough for...

PSA - Weber Chassis Sale

Weber seems to be having a sale on select chassis: https://www.tedweber.com/springcleaningsale/ Oddly enough, I bought a 6M50 chassis for $20, and now when I go back to the site, it's $35. The 6M40 is still a steal at $30 for a silkscreened chassis (I believe it's their Marshally-version of a Tweed-...
