Re: Loose Tubes
I use a dental pick because they have a very fine tip that will fit between the socket and the pin gripper......and, being a dental pick, they are made of very strong stainless steel and won't break.

Re: Black tweed?
Weber offers a black tweed on their kits. Perhaps they would sell you some. Shoot them an email and ask nicely!

Re: Identify these speakers
Thanks rp! Those baskets do look the same as mine. I'll do some more research on Marsland. Most likely replacement speakers.

Re: Identify these speakers
Thanks for your confirmation Gene. They didn't look like anything from Celestion/Rola to me either. I bought the amp about 10 years ago in Vancouver BC and it came wired for 120 volt AC. So I wondered if these were some oddball speaker used in export amps, or perhaps they are replacement speakers fr...

Identify these speakers
These 10" alnico speakers are in my 1969 Marshall 1930 Popular. The magnet is stamped 10-100009 04 and the cone is stamped 38-35-3. The basket has an unusual shape....kind of a square shoulder. I can't find anything about them online. Any idea who made these?

Re: re-capped fender twin silverface and modded to blackface
If you still have the carbon composition plate load resistors, try replacing them with metal film or metal oxide. Carbon comps absorb moisture and can cause hissing, crackling and popping noises.
Good Luck!

Re: Fender Studio Bass - Low Current Draw
Problem solved! Socket pin grippers were not all making contact with the tube pins. DOH! I re-tensioned all the octal sockets, reinstalled the 6L6GC's and the volume is back up where it should be (loud like a Twin Reverb) and the buzzy distortion is gone. While I've seen sloppy tube pin grippers bef...

Re: Fender Studio Bass - Low Current Draw
Thanks for your reply Martin. Yes the bias balance pot adjusts the bias from side-to-side as it should, and I've already adjusted it. I'm getting -62V to the grids of all the 6L6GC tubes. I have the same low output problem with the old, original Sylvania tubes (they have the Fender brand on them), s...

Fender Studio Bass - Low Current Draw
I'm working on a 1978 Fender Studio Bass amp. The amp was in very clean condition, only a plate and screen resistor had been replaced on one output tube. All tubes, caps and transformers were original. Complaint was low output and slightly buzzy distortion. As the electrolytic caps were 35 years old,...

Re: How Is Appropriate Size Determined For Filter Caps?
I agree with LeftyStrat's comments. Also be aware that if your amp uses a tube rectifier, the first (sometimes referred to "primary" or "reservoir")filter caps should be limited in capacitance, depending upon the tube rectifier used (5Y3GT, 5U4GT, 5AR4, etc.), otherwise the rectifier tube can blow. ...
