Re: Trying mystery NOS tubes out - no tube tester nearby
Phil, I built a curve tracer and will be delighted to test and match up your tubes for you if you're near Tampa Florida.

Re: 5v6 in place of 6v6
At 6.3v on the heaters, you are going to burn them out faster. How fast? I have no idea. Figure out how to supply the heaters with 5V! For personal use, why not? Don't expect someone else to realize the difference between 5V6 and 6V6 when attempting to retube. How cheap is cheap? You should be able...

5v6 in place of 6v6
So I build a lot of 6V6 amps with old organ power transformers. I like to use SS recto and lots of times there's an unused 5 volt winding tied off and tucked away. I see from the GE 6V6GT data sheet that the 5V6GT is supposed to be identical except for the heater. NOS 5V6GTs appear to be pretty chea...

Re: Ultimate Hammond Conversions thread
I think you guys might get a kick out of this. A friend at work, an amateur musician, sent me a link to an ad for a Hammond L-100, $45 on Craigslist. He asked if it’s the same as mine. I told him no, but it’s a good source for parts and I offered to go with him to pick it up so we could strip it and...

I love that ground bus. If I may ask, what kind of square stock is that and how did you twist it?

Re: adding an OD section to an amp
It's a new build in a Weber5E3X2 chassis. Plenty of room for what I want to do. I'm really fishing for information about whether the OD section is known to play nice in amps other than the ODS - which amps sound good this way, which amps don't play nice with the OD, that sort of thing.

adding an OD section to an amp
I'm considering adding a Dumble-esqe single-tube OD to a Plexi 6V6. Anyone tried anything similar before, maybe can discuss pitfalls I should beware of? My plan is to put it in between the tone stack and the P/I, make it switchable in-out with footswitch and/or switched OD LEVEL pot. I'm wondering i...

Re: Ultimate Hammond Conversions thread
Hell, yeah, keep it, or pass it along to someone who can play and/or fix it. Please don't even consider scrapping it. yeah, I did keep the A100, and fixed it. Found a place for it right next to my Leslie (imagine that). I'm having a blast learning how to play keyboards now. Been playing guitar over...

Re: Ultimate Hammond Conversions thread
Last weekend I picked up an inoperative Hammond M143 for free and scrapped it, it had an AO-29 and an AO-44 in it plus the reverb tank and some decent speakers. So now I actually have a small stock of spare iron and tubes for 6V6 and EL84, with no active projects. I already have a Plexi6V6, a 5E3 cl...

Re: Tinnitus
Do any of you suffer from tinnitus after playing music for so many years? My hearing is still very good at 51 but I have this constant high-pitched ringing in my ears that I usually only notice when it's relatively quiet in my surroundings. What? What? Seriously, I have it too and have had it for o...

Re: 6L6 amp donor?
I've used a couple of the Bogen HE10 for 50W purpose. Octal preamps and hefty iron. For eBay browsing purposes, they are green, and quite similar to this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Bogen-J-330-Dual-6L6G-Reverb-Tube-Amplifier-Audio-Guitar-MIC-Harp-PA-Amp-/111452410793?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&...

6L6 amp donor?
I've been building some nice clones and custom amps based on the Hammond AO-29 transformer set, both 6V6 and EL84 amps. Now I want to build a 2 x 6L6 push-pull. If you were doing this, what organ or other old-stock source would you be looking for, for your transformers?
