Re: Building The Rocket :)

a bit late, but I use the high voltage Hookup Wire LIH/125 from Tube Town mostly. I have mentioned it on this site before, but it is not so well known outside of the UK. It is very thin and has some form of advanced sleeving that gives the HV rating. It strips really well and has a kind of secondary...

Re: Amplitube Max sacrilege

Sometimes I ask myself why so many of these systems model so much 50/60 Hz ripple too.

Do you think they will let us do virtual reservoir and filter cap jobs one day soon?

Re: Advice on thinning the herd

Oh no, you made me look at my wall of iron. 1000 circuit possibilities to keep an old codger out the the pub during retirement. Maybe we can start a self help group? Strategies and tactics for letting it go or continuation of the hoarding. Like reminding She who must be obeyed that Mr. Edison needed...

Re: Funny Story About Tweed!

The 5E3 circuit never really interested me because it seemed everyone was building them.
A couple of years back I bought an old '58 and kicked myself for being so arrogant not to listen to combined wisdom!

Re: Tele pickups?

For traditional, Don Mare has a lot of choice!
I have two ordered to try out.

Happy using the Bill Lawrence Wilde PUs, just about all versions because of their response to dynamics. When I cannot wait, I order a Seymour Duncan Broadcaster.

Re: So Fender has been doing this in their RI amps....

There are unequal balancing resistors in the schematic that pdf64 posted. I reckon there would be 70V across the 220uF/100V, maybe as high as 80V on start up. My gut reaction would have been that the cost of stocking two more different components would have outweighed any economic advantage. But tha...

Re: So Fender has been doing this in their RI amps....

Intruiging. Did you take a voltage resding at the junction of the two caps?
Are the balancing resistors different too?

Re: Can you hear the difference?

2/6. Mostly I was picking the 320kbps too. I only got the classical and Neil Young ones correct. Listened through highly abused Etymotic in ear buds from my construction sites on a mac air in a hotel room at 5:30 am. Personally, I find the special effects and compression built into modern playback s...

Re: Vox / Korg AC4hw1 hum problem - lay out needed

From your photos, it is now clear since the modding the lead dress not as precise as it was when it left the factory. The heater /filament wires to the EL84 output tube are indeed not twisted. As I mentioned in your other thread, the filament wires towards the preamp are very tightly twisted but are...

Re: epiphone sheraton ii or gibson es-335

the sheraton felt pretty good That's most of the ball game right there. Some smart Gibson fans around here have been picking up Epi's. Seems to be a trend. I only have one EPI. It feels pretty good and happens to be a "clone" of an old '50s Gibson ES that I have. The EPI is a great six string at it...

Re: Vox AC4hw hum problem (structural) lay out needed

Luuc, could you post a clear image of the two preamp sockets from the inside without giving yourself an electric shock? Judging by some blurred online pictures on the web, there could be some improvement to the filament wiring at those sockets which we could suggest. It looks like they took a really...

another thing, more to do with the mods: I don't know of any tropical fish cap that was rated beyond 250V.

Re: Vox AC4hw hum problem (structural) lay out needed

I am not familiar with this circuit. But I always use a CLC filter set up (choke) in my SE builds.
But anyway, you say the hum is 50Hz. Isn't that just filament noise issue, not power rail?

Re: If I want to build a Dumble amp : which one ?

I remember the old Guilhem web site which seems to have gone. It had very clear images of excellent clone work of just about every iconic guitar amp you can think of. There was an almost OCD attention to detail. But the texts pointed to someone who is perhaps not a great team player. Live and let dr...
