Re: New admin. New members!
Hey, friends, I'm on board as TAG admin. (Power corrupts!) There was a big backlog of folks wanting to become members, and I've let many of them in just now, so I'll be watching out for shenanigans and spam. Carry on, and happy holidays! Thank you Xtian! Thank you Phil for all you have done! Happy ...

Re: Harmonic trem in Princeton reverb
Harmonic trem is my favorite trem. I was at a local family owned restaurant and a band was playing and the guitar player was plugged into this custom amp that had no name on it and the cab was poorly made. It had the same controls as a Princton Reverb and about the same size. He told me it had harmo...

I'm happy to help, Phil. I'll DM you my mobile number. Three cheers for Xtian! Thank you Xtian for offering to keep this amazing site alive! I am dealing with ageing parents and do not have the time but maybe someday later I will. All the best Phil. Like it was mentioned previously we are always he...

Re: Vox-style grillcloth patented | legal issues?
I was building a bunch of combo amps for a popular effects pedal manufacturer about 2 yrs ago. They wanted the diamond grill cloth so I installed them on the combos. That same week he showed me a copy of a letter that he received from someone he knew at Two Rock. It was a cease and desist letter fro...

Re: DC Heater considerations
Another great and simple alternative to eliminate heater hum is elevating the existing AC heaters with an injection of DC volts! I have done it on several amps and was pleasantly surprised at how much quieter they got. Here is the thread that describes it. https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f...

Re: Santana Dumbles
Was that “Feeling You” Dumble, originally more of a 70s voicing (before HAD updated it).? The "Feeling You" amp was originally a low plate (100K) resistors and the 100K slope resistor, I am not sure if that was changed, probably not. One thing we know is that it had the reverb taken much the same w...

Re: Overdrive Deluxe amp
One nice thing about it not being bias trem is that we can play with all different size power tubes. 6L6, 6550, EL34.
This one is on my bucket list as soon as I get through the pile of amps I need to finish LOL

Re: Wanting to Build an ODS Special - Wheres the best place to get head cab, boards and chassis?
Hi Yamariv, yes the Hammonds Martin mentioned will work fine for your ODS. I have built quite a few with those transformers and lots of happy customers here in Canada. The #124 Low Plate classic is my personnel favorite but build what ever you like because I am sure you will build another one after...

Re: My take on Eric Johnson's Steel String Singer #005
What a great sounding amp and what a terrific team effort this whole thread has been. My take on the 005 is a bit different than yours. Nevertheless the 005 is among the best clean amps I know. I’m not that big of a fan of the overdriven sounds the amp has to offer, but it takes drive pedals extrem...

Re: Chinese built Steel String Singer *clone*
I cannot wait for the requests to tune those as well to make them sound right. People also forget how many differences there are between the different serial # amps. People will see a 'SSS' and immediately think "Oh Stevie Ray Vaughn!!" meanwhile, it'll be a clone of Kaiser's or Jackson Brow...

Re: Resistor Shootout: High Plate Skyline
Yes I agree, This was a great post. I have been so caught up with life matters that I never had time to chime in until now. I have tried several similar resistors mentioned for the plates and the changes I noticed most was how the Vishay/Dale RN65D/RN70E on V1a plate made the amp a little brighter t...
