Re: First Princeton reverb build

My boss has a slightly modded BFPR that wails (when he got it, the OPT and speaker were toast). DR OPT. PI supply moved up one node (higher) Final coupling caps changed from .1 to .01 (might be a little small for Strats?) Jensen P10R (it was on hand, and we liked it). I need to go back in and add so...

Re: Twin Reverb's Odd Reverb Problem

Have you checked the tank? Disconnect it and put your Ohm meter across the RCA jacks. One side should read just a few ohms, the other a bit over 200. If there's no continuity, look for broken wires from the RCAs to the little transducers - it's a very common failure. (If it's a newer tank with molex...

Re: Black tweed?

I would think that an alcohol based woodworking dye would work well. (But I thought I could use Ritt dye to make some beige pants black - they came out various shades of purple. Glad they were free.)

Doesn't that make the bright input even brighter?

What did they change in the SD30II? I like that amp.

Could be cone and/or spyder sag. Rotate the speaker 180 degrees.

Re: fender hot rod deluxe issues

I have encountered a number of recently manufactured Fenders with a flickering and/or dim pilot bulb. In every case, the bulb was not seated properly, and tape was required for me to get a sufficient grip to turn it after I pushed it down all the way.

Re: BF Deluxe Reverb - how to get overdrive smoother?

Get rig of the excess low end that Fenders have. Change the PI-6V6 coupling caps from .1 to .01. Or change V1A's cathode bypass cap from 25uF to somewhere between 2uF and 5uF. This worked great in the boss's BF Princeton Reverb.

Funky, but it looks as though it would not be a PITA to repair, which is what I worry about most. How's it sound?

Re: 2203 Oscillation (and solution).

The cap was the first thing I thought of, and it worked. A grid stopper might also have done the job. But the cap was easy, and the amp sounded good, with the tone controls able to take it from too bright to too dark. The boss is happy, so I'm happy :-) It was suggested on another forum that in iffy...

2203 Oscillation (and solution).

Our GM handed me a 1980 2203 and said "I'm borrowing this, check it out". Tubes tested OK and I set the bias. I noticed a tiny bit of fuzz on the output, so I flipped the scope to FFT mode. When cranked the amp was oscillating at about 30kHz and IIRC 40kHz, and sometimes other frequencies. In the pa...

Clean or dirty? For dirty, I like the G12M25. For clean, the Blue is better, though other choices may be better yet (I've never heard one with a D120F or K120).

Re: AC15HW1 Schematic

If you are speaking of the fawn colored Vietnam made amp, it's one of my favorites. The only thing I would change is to put shields on V2 and V3 (which I have done to ours - makes 'em more stable). And make sure to use the later layout, with the EL84's grid stoppers right on the sockets instead of o...
