Re: Tubes and Safety regs
Doesn't aluminum help to dissipate heat? I know it's generally not used in the bbq world because it transfers heat so rapidly.

Re: Amplified Nation Tolex Tutorial
I'm new here, I joined while gleaning info for my first cabinet. I am a countertop fabricator by trade and work in a kitchen and bath store. Wilsonart is a big brand like Formica, they make everything from laminates to solid surfaces like Corian to flooring. You may have luck finding products locall...

Re: Finally finished my first cab!
I don't know, I just came up with that shape so you could see the tubes and flipped the top on a whim after I had them cut out, lol. I just tried to leave about as much open space as the cobbled together cabinet had that i was using. It sounded pretty sweet. I'll be playing it tonight.

Finally finished my first cab!
I retro rodded a little amp and re-housed it. Learned a ton on this. I can see myself doing more of this. Thank you all for your help!

Well here it is in all its glory, LOL. I can see myself doing more of this. I just learned a ton of stuff on this one.
Thanks again for your input, this is a pretty cool place, I'm pretty sure at some point I'd like to try soldering something to put in a cab.

Re: Tolex seams
Well I've managed to get the top and bottom back panels done so I thought I'd post an update with a picture. I'm going for a vintage kind of vibe. I really enjoy the challenge of this kind of stuff. The adhesive I'm using is a vinyl flooring adhesive from a company called Karndean. I just apply it t...

Re: Tolex seams
I found a bucket of vinyl floor adhesive at work. I've used it before installing flooring. In some of the videos I've seen on you tube it appears only the tolex has adhesive applied to it as opposed to the traditional methods of contact cement and that is how I've previously used this. I'm going to ...

Re: installing grill cloth...
Would it make any difference if you started with the top? The reason I ask is because if you can then the 'bobble' would be on the bottom and maybe less noticeable?

Re: Tolex seams
That looks good from here Bill. I'm still trying to lay this all out in my brain. My tolex and grill cloth just arrived today. I just realized that the cab I built has a face frame about 2" wide so I have some more figuring out to do.

Re: Tolex seams
As already pointed out, it is possible to cut and butt as you suggest. I did this successfully about a year ago and it is holding well. Very sharp razor blade means new or nearly new. Not all vinyl materials are equal as some have somewhat bulky underside and these are a bad choice as is the wrong ...

Re: Tolex seams
I was wondering if it might shrink. Unfortunately I just can't do a simple single color for my first try, I have to jump off in the deep end. I already ordered my materials! This could be interesting real quick. I battle with an acute case of doityourselfism.

Tolex seams
New guy to the forum here. I am in the process of building my first cabinet and am going to learn how to Tolex. I have a question; it looks like from what I can find on the interwebs most seams are over lapped or in some cases piping is used. Is there a reason why you can't cut a good flat seam with...
