Re: Anyone try a JTM pre into cathode bias (18W)?
Thanks guys, great suggestions. I figured a master volume of some sort would be a must. I just was curious if there would be enough clean headroom in a live setting while still being able to drive it hard when needed too. It is 6V6-based and I am also considering just converting it to fixed-bias at ...

Re: Rick Beato interviews Robben Ford
OK, Jeff Healey is being interviewed. The interviewer gets to the part where he plays the song parts and then asks Jeff what he thinks about the guitar playing. Jeff comments, 'Well maybe the guy can play, but he has no feeling. It's like listening to a machine, I find it hard to listen to.' Yep, i...

Re: I am angry with myself. Amp purchase remorse...
I've never had a lick of trouble with Reverb, but i don't sell there - only buy. Bought tons of stuff, most recently a Les Paul. Most sellers are more than happy to supply additional pics or even video clips if you let them know you are very interested and will buy if it all checks out. If not, I as...

Very cool. It's always nice to read about a positive interaction. Sounds like maybe they are past their struggles and moving forward again.

Anyone try a JTM pre into cathode bias (18W)?
Just wondering if it's worth the trouble trying to do this... JTM/Plexi/Bassman preamp into a typical 18W cathode-bias poweramp section. I have an 18W kit inbound and was toying with the idea of converting it.

Re: Rack stuff
A little late adding transformer suggestions, but have you considered this replacement for a 6G15 reverb unit? https://www.tubesandmore.com/products/transformer-fender-replacement-power-stand-alone-reverb Very cool designs by the way! I have used that transformer when I have 2 or more inches of cle...

I can't stand Beato. Ever read his video's comments when someone disagrees with him? His response basically is "and that's why you will always suck and never win a grammy like me." No thanks.

Re: treomolo for newbie recommendations
lol I hear you. I played for many years before ever getting a full-on tube amp. Now, I did use some of the DIgiTech tube preamps back in the day and I bought a Classic 30 that I never really bonded with. Wasn't until I started building my own that I fell in love with them. Same. I played a Roland J...

Re: treomolo for newbie recommendations
No shame in picking up an inexpensive modelling amp for your first amp. Look at the BOSS Katana amps on the used market. Not too far off your budget and a whole lot of fun to experiment with all the effects for a beginner. Some players are actually switching over to them for live gigs.... *GASP* No,...

Re: What to do with 50 watt 6L6/EL34 build
You mentioned you have built some AX84 designs and are considering something Plexi-ish... have you considered the AX84 October with it's adjustable NFB pot? Use the switch to go between JTM/Plexi and you have all that you are after I think. Just throw the AX84 Crunch Preamp on there with the above m...

Re: can we talk about ground
I plan on building some pedals and am planning to use a wooden enclosure and this has again brought up my lack of true understanding. As long as your "ground" is passing from the guitar through the cable, through the pedal, out the other cable and eventually into the amp unbroken, you will be OK. T...
