Re: Help With DIY Soldano X88R Preamp
You are probably getting oscillations by removing that tone stack and probably slamming the grid. Also need a coupling cap as previously mentioned. Calculate the amount of db loss usually obtained by the tone stack and match it with a T voltage divider before the Level, R43 is kind of redundant, C25...

Re: Valve Wiz Buffer Loop
That schematic is fairly close to the D'lator but for me, since HAD designed the D'lator as a companion buffered loop for his ODS amps, I trust his design to work and sound better than just about any other design. If you want to build the loop inside an existing amp, shouldn't be a problem as long ...

Re: Another Radio Interference Thread
My Alessandro Doberman has Radio Interference - both local and on stage. I use a pedal board with multiple effects. Doesn't happen when not plugged in. Whats puzzling is that I also have a Silverface Twin and this never happens to this amp. I also have a Marshall 2104 which does pick up RF but to a...

Re: Jim Kelley Attenuator
I listened to the recordings. Have you tried JK's attenuator in-person with a real guitar and amp? When and if you do, I suspect that you will no longer be as impressed by the recording. This has been my experience, FWIW. The JK attenuater actually sounds very good, I have heard the Faustine which ...

Re: led lit faceplate...
Thanks, all... I still can't find the picture I was thinking of. It was darker, a head on a 4X12, I think. And the name on the front panel started with an "X" or perhaps a "V"... I'll live if I can't find it, but it looked very cool, indeed. Something I'd like to try... Bob [img:450:209]http://www....

Re: Follow-Up on Packard Bell Hum Problem
My previous thread.. http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12110&highlight=hum I have done a couple of things to try and fix this hum problem. #1 I took out my input selector switch and I took out the hum balance pot so everything is original to specifications. The next thing I did I went to t...

Re: WHY ALUMINIUM CHASSIS?
Interesting that on an "Ultrphonics mod" he spaces the OT transformer away from the chassis with a thick shim. So he must think there is something to it, or maybe just a quicker way of getting components/wires further away from the OT. Have also understood that because a steel chassis is ferromagne...

Re: Aluminum chassis question...
I'm building my first aluminum (anodized ) chassis amp. The grounds are soldered to ( tinned? ) ring connectors and bolted to sanded areas on the chassis. Am I going to have to worry about/deal with the aluminum oxidizing and screwing up the grounds? Kind of like houses with aluminum wiring? Should...

Re: PT and OT distance
Is there any negative effects of having the PT and OT right next to eachother. I see that on most amps they are on opposite ends of the chassis. But the chassis i have has them right next to eachother and i'm afraid this will have negative effects on the sound. Any input will be great You can easil...

Re: AMP Builders unite and get a better footswitch
Attached is a drawing of 4 styles of schematic diagrams for possible 3 button footswitches, I am working with Michael at Cliff USA to see if we can get these made. So pick which style would be the most desired for a production run and we could all benefit. Any of these would be acceptable for my pu...

Re: High Plate voltage on 6L6GC
I am building an amp with a donated traynor PT. I am getting a plate voltage of 530Volts. I am assuming that this will kill 6L6GC's. Is there a meathod of lowering the voltage to 450? Should I switch to EL34's? If so the screen can only take 425v....how would I lower the voltage before it hit the s...
