Going from stranded to solid wire. Anyone actually notice?
I built my express clone right as the Francesca shots became available so it's not an "exact" clone. I ended up using stranded wire throughout and recently saw an interview with Ken where he explains why he used solid core wire instead. Has anyone actually heard the difference between the two? I'm w...

Notes sound pinched off ... almost like a gating effect.
I get tons of gain and volume from my wreck build but it sounds like the notes get sort of pinched off. Kind of like a noise gate effect. Anyone else experience this? If so, do you know how to eliminate it? My Marshall simply gushes in comparison!

Re: Lowering the gain in my Wreck
You might have heard the one lone country track on my CD "Country Ham" where I recorded my original Express with a 12AY7 in V1 & V2. Works well, makes a BIG difference in gain, and it's easy to change back. Using this trick, a Tele, and x4 Alnico blues gave me a nice clean country tone for the day....

Anyone add a rectifier tube to their Express?
Just wondering how hard it is and what the results were.

Re: Lowering the gain in my Wreck
Is there a simple way to keep the amps volume from ramping up so quickly?

Lowering the gain in my Wreck
I've got so much gain in my Wreck that I rarely go above 1:00 on the volume. What would I need to do to lower the gain slightly and achieve more clean headroom?
Also, what do 6V6s do to the sound? Is it just a matter of swapping tubes and rebiasing?

Anyone use their Wreck for clean tones?
I was checking out some Dr. Z amps today and really liked the 18 watt combo. I started wondering what my wreck clone might sound like if it were set up for clean ... so I tried it and it was really nice! I had it running into an open back Fender cab with a Jensen P12N. Not much clean headroom but it...

Re: Anyone use Celestion Blues?
I'd be using two of them so I think it's okay. I hear they're conservatively rated at 15 watts.

Anyone use Celestion Blues?
Anyone try the Blues? How do they sound compared to Greenbacks ... do they handle TW style gain well?

Re: Not a Wreck, but I thought I'd share anyways
Hey Phil! That would be a blast ... I bet there's a lot of great gear out there that we don't know about. Omar, I remember your build looking EXTREMELY nice. Almost to the point of making everyone else's look like spaghetti!! The 12 series is definitely more VH. The regular Superleads will do it too...

Not a Wreck, but I thought I'd share anyways
I'm doing this for a friend ... it's pretty much a 12 series Superlead but with dual 32s on the screens. I'm getting a little cleaner each time I put one together. :) I'll take it outside tomorrow and take a better shot. The tough part is yet to come ... seeing if it'll fire up!! My wreck build was ...

After comparing the H30s (55hz blackbacks) to my Greenbacks, I have to say I prefer the 25s. Just a personal preference of course!

Pics of my head cab
Finally got it done. I guess it's based on a wreck but I didn't follow any real dimensions or formulas. I just made it the same height as my Marshall cabs and used home depot wood. I only have a table saw so I had to round those corners by hand! [img:544:408]http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-1/822...
