SSS with OD/FET/Filters
Hello all, Several months ago, I got curious and drafted together a schemo for a somewhat ambitious design: SSS derived, with the post cathode voltage driver based on Martin Mannings ideas (thanks Martin!) Also, tweaked High and low filters as per Martin Manning. Preamp is similar to JM Sig amp with...

Re: My take on a Vox hybrid
I did make one correction to that schemo that I did not update - I used 820R/22K cathode values for the PI to drive the 6L6s more effectively.

Re: My take on a Vox hybrid
I think it will work this time. Im pretty sure this is the correct schematic.

Re: My take on a Vox hybrid
Here was the schemo I drafted of it. You only need one DPDT relay for the channel switching. I also had a switchable effects loop as well.
Edit: Well, nevermind. I can't get the image to attach to this post

Re: My take on a Vox hybrid
I built something very similar to this, but using a 6BR7 pentode instead of the EF86. You can get away with pseudo tone controls on the pentode channel by using different interstage coupling caps on a rotary switch a-la Matchless. That sets your "Bass" control. You can make a treble control by toggl...

Re: 6V6 Rocket build low output
im fairly certain it's just the PI clipping.

Re: 6V6 Rocket build low output
update:
I removed the cut control, and gained an additional few watts of power. At this point, it puts out about 13 watts before clipping. That still doesnt seem right for a pair of 6V6 in cathode bias?

Re: 6V6 Rocket build low output
So, checking signal voltages elsewhere, this is what I get:
clean max signal from the first gain stage taken at the top of the volume pot: roughly 7vAC
Signal taken from the PI input cap clean: 4vAC
Do these seem in line or very low?

Re: 6V6 Rocket build low output
I am getting about 15v signal drive to the power tubes, and thats after the master volume has been eliminated. Wyan, I am calculating amp power by running the amp into a dummy load and scoping the output across the dummy load. I am running a 600hz tone into the PI and into the front end of the amp -...

Re: 6V6 Rocket build low output
I ended up pulling the PPIMV setup and trying again - I still only get 7 watts of power. And that is with injecting a signal into the PI input, ruling out the preamp IMO. Voltages in the PI are close: Grid connections are 33v/35v. PI plates are 200v/189v. Cathode voltage is 43v. Voltages on my 6V6 t...

6V6 Rocket build low output
Greetings everyone! I have been building a 6V6 powered Rocket with the classictone express PT and OT and I am kinda stumped on a low power issue. The build is complete, and I have audited it against the taylor rocket schematic so I know my connections are correct. Other than 6V6 setup the other smal...

Martin, Are you referring to the .001uF or the .012uF cap?martin manning wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2018 11:22 am Also, note you have an extra cap in front of the filter, but I don't think that will make too much difference.

SSS/JM Sig amp/Overdrive reverb Hybrid idea
Greetings all! I've really enjoyed watching the Dreric, Mhartman and Manning projects and ideas on TAG lately - And it's inspired me to dream up a fun concept. I've heard of a few folks who built the SSS with an integrated OD stage - I like the idea of this. It's somewhat similar to the Overdrive Re...

Glad to see it working! I know my ODSR#60 build was probably one of my toughest ones yet.
