Re: Known designs with 1st stage LNFB?

I haven't seen any with the first stage LNFB. However the 2nd stage A-La Dumble seems to be in a few HiFi designs.

I think no one did LNFB on first stage because most designs are trying to maximize headroom and gain early on. JM2C!

It smells somewhat authentic but looks Mickey Mouse as all get out.

Re: Spring reverb

How much current handing can a tank itself handle? I love me some spring, but I ended up getting a Strymon Flint and never looked back ;) There is also a great digital option - the Spin FV-1. Has a cool GUI you can use to create and download reverb patches that sound great. The tricky part is integr...

Re: Dumble Concert Reverb

It actually looks like it's wired in parallel with the ceramic coupling cap on V1B. Maybe parallels a cap?

Re: Dumble Concert Reverb

I tried to dissect the guy shot photos earlier. I also believe Aaron has been working on tracing this one out too.

Note the treble and Bass boost toggles on the front. The treble one appears to toggle a cap in series somewhere.

Re: Dumble Concert Reverb

That amp was listed for sale on Reverb. I don't know if it sold or not.

Re: Fuse on hot wire seems to make for bad lead dressing

I believe modern CE/UL regs require the hot to be fused.

And it doesn't hurt to use a DPDT toggle and turn on/off both the hot and cold legs of the incoming AC either.

I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Re: What is your Desert island Overdrive Special? (and why)

My fave setup is low plate Skyline EQ with 100W output section. I'd argue that setup is also the "easiest" one to dial in with a wide range of instruments. 2nd fave would be Bluesmaster HRM. A more finicky amp, especially in my clumsy hands. But slays with a good guitar player. Sent from my Moto G (...

Speaker and cab are super important! But how do you test and determine which of those works best until you actually build the amp?

R.G.

Thanks for the follow up details! I reckon I could just use Silicon for this role. I just got really intruiged by these older designs.

Maybe I'll use these cathode follower designs with that UL series vox board I got from you!

All the best,

Dustin

That one is similar to the Dumbleland or winterland I think. Also curious as to how that would sound too!

Re: UltraPhonix with a few twists

From my experience in putting these D styled amalgamations together, I think you should expect to have to tweak a lot after you do the initial build. Planning at the schematic stage is fine, but to really tune it (and you probably will after you build it) I highly recommend building 3 or 4 small res...

Re: Steel String Singer+Overdrive Reverb+Post PI Cathode Follower Hybrid thread

Sorry, I should clarify! Topology wise, this amp looks a lot like Overdrive Reverb #60. The verb entrance comes after the clean channel OR the OD channel, unlike the other Dumbles that don't have an OD channel. I used JM sig amp preamp values in the clean channel. OD channel is a lot like #60. I bui...

Re: Steel String Singer+Overdrive Reverb+Post PI Cathode Follower Hybrid thread

Tictac, I am borrowing heavily from the JM Sig amp for the clean preamp and some of the reverb. I know on the SSS it's taken from after the first stage, and on the ODR/JM Sig amp it's after the 2nd gain stage. I'll leave some space to play around with it both ways when I start to build it.
