Re: Best Non Varistor Trem
I owned a 1962 Fender Pro, and the trem was something to behold. I will say that the trem on those amps doesn't fit every style of music. I like the simplicity of the VibroChamp trem. It is a nice sounding, tube bias style trem. A nice feature is that it modulates the bias of a pre-amp section, not ...

Re: 6aq5 "18 Watt" TMB
If it were me, I would ditch the 6AQ5 idea and run 6V6's. I would also axe the EZ-81, as it is a heater current hog. If you go this route, you will have plenty of heater current to run 2-6V6's and 3 12AX7's. I am running an AO44 as an 18 watt Lite IIB right now with a SS diode rectifier, 2-EL84's an...

The 100uf should give it a bit more punch vs that 25uf

Try swapping the output transformer leads at the power tubes.

Re: First Amp Build: Which One and where to source
I would recommend not building something very complex for your first build. You need to start to understand how tube circuits work and how to read schematics before you dive into the more complex builds. Wiggle, crawl, walk, run. You might try building something like the AX84 P1 or some other simple...

Re: Effects Loop for 2204 (Marshall) - do all options reek?
I have wondered how the single triode effects loop return buffer that Doug Hoffman used in his H50 would sound. Basically a hot rod 2203'ish design with a FX loop that is pre-MV. Perhaps someone can decipher some nuggets from the layout. [img:515:383]http://www.el34world.com/Hoffman/images/H50pre.gi...

Re: AO-44 Iron
Ok, How about a Superlite TMB with 6v6's? The 6v6's don't draw that much more plate current and will be able to handle the higher voltages of the diode rectification. I would think it would handle this arrangement without any hesitation. - I would run JJ 6V6's for a nice punchy sound. It isn't a re...

Re: AO-44 Iron
Great candidate for a Lite IIB. I bought an AO44 Lite IIB from mmoser like that and have built a few variants since then. Right now I have it configured as a Hoffman Stout and it is a ripper! The AO-44 PT is 240-0-240 V. The stock hammond AO-44 tube configuration draws 2300mA / 2.3A EZ81=1000mA 6GW8...

Grab your digital camera and a screwdriver, crack that baby open.
All this cloak and dagger secrecy BS.
If this amp and its circuit is sacred and secret...you have found the wrong forum.

Express with delay?
How does the Express get along with delay?
Or more clearly, as compared to the ab763 preamp, does the extra gainstage in the express preamp mess with delay.

Re: Fender Bassman 50 with Master Volume
Here is a good visual on how to hook up the PPIMV. Parts are in. I replaced filter caps and changed Normal channel to AA165 spec. Turned it on without tubes, and looks good so far. (Looks so much nicer with modern, smaller components.) Too late to put tubes in tonight; will look closely at it in the...

You could build the hoffman style ab763, it uses the 6g16 bias trem.
