Cool. I don't know the details of Trainwrecks but is the perfboard shown in the picture on that site the 'no longer available' perfboard or not? Color looks lighter.
Never heard of the Triggs amps but they look kinda cool. Anybody know anything about them? Bet it's a deceivingly heavy amp.

Re: creitone express
higain, Did you try a cathode follower at the end of the preamp? I've read that when doing this some folks go to a 3K3 unbypassed cathode R instead of the 10K unbypassed cathode R and then change the 150K to that 220K/330K divider. But some say they use a 220K series resistor between the CF and the ...

Re: dumb guy's bias question
No, that method works too and doesn't have any screen current included.

Re: dumb guy's bias question
You need to get off of that 70% dissipation rule. That's just a number that somebody thought was a good number...high enough to usually get out of the 'crossover notch' yet not so high as to over-dissipate the tubes. It's like somebody asked; "If you were going to tell someone that was clueless what...

Re: Dlite el34
I've read (can't remember where) that the 'standard' screen resistor values of 470 ohm for Fender (which was usually 6L6 or 6V6) and 1K for Marshall (usually EL34 or 6550) were fairly arbitrary values (within limits) and people just tend to stick with them for no other reason than familiarity. But t...

Re: Dumbleator tube?
Since the Return stage is the same tube...would a 12DW7 be a good choice for a 'stock' Dumbleator circuit? I don't know how they were wired...in order to have the CF on the 12AU7 half you would have to wire the CF to the first triode (pins 1-2-3). In any case, it doesn't seem that the Return gain st...

Express speakers...again
Revisiting an old topic because I think it's a very important part of the chain...I already did a search and found some decent threads on it...but didn't see much on the newer Eminence line (I'm sure I just missed it) nor the new Celestion G12-65 RIs. I've read the Trainwreck Express amp was suppose...

Re: Dumbleator tube?
Are you refering to the 10K resistor at the cathode of the cathode follower? I had someone build an amp for me (not a Dumble clone) and he originally put a Dumbleator loop in it. I had major headroom problems and it just sounded crappy with a 12AX7 (I didn't try any other tube types). I ended up con...

Re: Komet's Concorde
So is the following correct regarding the differences in the preamp: Basically an Express preamp except the extra, unused triode is wired as a 'standard' cathode-follower and the third stage is now direct-coupled to the cathode follower. Output of the CF goes through a .022uF coupling cap and a 220K...

Iron for the different Trainwreck amps
I've done a search but didn't find the answer. I'm trying to get info on the transformers used for the different Trainwreck models. For PTs I've seen the: 260-0-260 @ 300 mA and the 300-0-300 @ 300 mA I see you can get a dual secondary PT with both of these voltages (I actually have one). Which volt...

Re: New Liverpool Done!
That looks great! I'm just starting an Express build myself. Do you mind if I ask where you get your chassis and other parts? I checked the link in your sig but didn't see any chassis like that...nor perfboard. FWIW, I have done the layout (just a drawing) for incorporating the London Power power sc...

Re: PPIMV and tone changes
I've got all the stuff ordered (but not delivered yet) to build one of Nik's Expresseses but I also ordered a Power Scaling Kit from London Power. It seems that with an amp like an Express (i.e. extremely dynamic/touch sensitive), a power scaling approach might work better than a post-PI MV in order...

Re: Hi, I got the Trainwreck feva
Hey Mark, It's Matt3 from the Vinatge Amps forum. You've been busy! I've listened to Mark's clips many times (great tones and playing BTW) and I've installed post-PI MVs a ton of times. I've tried the Rich mod as well as KFs MV from the Trainwreck pages several times each as well as some minor varia...

Hi, I got the Trainwreck feva
Hi, I'm new here, just ordered an Express kit without trannies or tubes from Nik and some Heyboer trannies. I've built a few amps from scratch and have built the Express circuit (one of the early Blue Guitar versions) into a BF Bassman once but I ended up yanking it out (I liked it a lot though). I'...
