Re: atomic 18

Thanks Stefan. This sound interesting, but I think I'll go the 18Watt and Badger ways to beef up the tone and reducing some gain in the preamp for a more progressive transition into full distortion and making it more responsive to the guitar volume pot and right hand playing. I won't use the master ...

Re: Matchless Phoenix

AFAIK the Phoenix it's only a C30 preamp with a chieftain power amp (including the PI). Look for those two schems, put them together and you'll have a Phoenix. Same component values throughout. Though I've seen C30s having either 220K/1M or 330K/2M2 for the EF86 plate and screen resistors respective...

Re: atomic 18

Besides the preamp gain I think the major problem is the PI. I'll go the 18Watt (or Vox or Fischer way). Amps designed for EL84 tubes. This amp has a PI designed for power tubes with much lower gain such as 6L6 or EL34, and hits the power tubes too hard too fast. From that point I'll tweak a few thi...

Re: atomic 18

that Soldano looks neat, a marshal based , lead/master vol. with a small power side. Not bad, but too tight, harsh and weak in the low-end. The mods helped with the lo-end somewhat though still stiff and harsh. I'm planning a full modification with ideas borrowed here and there from similar amps to...

Re: atomic 18

And this is the same schem with a couple of mods (currently implemented in mine) and the voltage readings using 230/110 VAC step down tranny.

Re: atomic 18

About the Soldano Atomic 16, this linked above is the only schem avilable all over the net, but I've never seen an Atomic or an Astroverb exactly matching that particular schem. Perhaps this is a prototype or a very early version. The common Atomics out there are like the one I own. This is the sche...

Re: PSU question

Too little R with small C = motorboating. Higher R = no more motorboating.
Great info, FYL. I didn't knew that. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Transformers back in stock

Yes, taxes and customs. You have to add a 2,7% import tax over final costs including final price, shipping and insurance if there's any, then add VAT to this ammount, then about anoter 3€ for customs handling, then DUA, a legal form for importers costing 35€ more to be done. And you'll end up with a...

Re: Transformers back in stock

For our European bretheren, does enyone have leads on good winders in the EU? I can't really ship to the EU easily, and the power trannies from Heyboer are 120V only, so it'd be nice to give them some leads. I have been getting a lot of questions from the EU asking for iron and I hate leaving them ...

Re: A single ended Trainwreck ?

Hey, great info, guys. I met DLM schem years ago but I didn't pay any attention to it because I was in my big amp days, but I'm becoming a huge tiny amps junkie. I think I need to start some searches at AX84.

Thanks.

Re: Simplest Master Volume EVER

I came up with this MV design when building my first TW clone (I wanted to tame the volume a little for home use). I won't swear it's original, but I've never seen it anywhere. The sound is pretty much flat,..nothing missing, just a little high end boost starting about 3KhZ. The only minor drawback...

Re: pec 2 watt pots log or linear proper part #?

PEC: Precision Electronic Components Ltd.

Those Kind of pots are also offered by other brands like Clarostat. Somewhat cheaper.

Look for military RV4 or K series for 2 watters or RV2 or N series for 1 Watt pots.
