Re: A new 102
Finished a 102. Thanks to Taylor for the nice chassis and boards, and to Jelle for the Draloric resistor set. Classictone Twin transformers and a Mercury Showman choke. JJ 6L6s running at 480V. It's been burning in and is opening up nicely. Very bouncy and plump cleans. Reviving this old thread. I ...

Re: Transformers and speakers for Vox amps
I have tried.. Blue Reissues, Tayden Alnicos, Emi Red Fangs, Celestion Gold, ASW Elegantes, Fane AXA, Southbay Scumincos, and Original Silvers.
Nothing sounds quite like the originals..but of the newer speakers I listed prefer the Scumnicos by a good margin

Re: Should I find a builder or is there an amp?
Yes Martins that is the tone! True overdrive that is organic and musical. Any clips of that custom amp you got? We I am a bit embarrassed to post this because the playing is so hack..was just a quick dirty test of amp/recorder ..but at least I FINALLY got a test clip of my JMJ30 amp..bear in mind I...

Re: Should I find a builder or is there an amp?
I dont have any clips of mine ..pretty much hits the tones in the clip though..or course a Tele and vintage celestion blues play a big part of the clip tone. MY amp is made by JMJ http://jmjamps.com/ ..he still makes amps but its a one guy deal so there is quite a long wait. A couple other options ...

Re: Should I find a builder or is there an amp?
Well Im not an amp builder, but a tone enthusiast and love amps ..judging by the tones you pointed out I think you might really like a EF86 Vintage Vox AC30 tones..TW Rocket is similar as well. Here is a clip of one of the best guitar tones Ive ever heard and really got me into Vox..particularly wit...

Not a wreck but..MP CS-40
Thanks to all the great people and info here I built a decent wreck clone..though I am not by any stretch an amp builder. At the moment I'm trying to learn how to use this recorder I have --not very intuitive--..then turn into a wave file and post to a file host..figured id share my 1st attempt. The...

Re: Express vs. Concorde
Im sure there are more amp builder types who can chime in but from more a players perspective...Ive had a zillion amps in my life..even a Copper Panel AC30 KF had tweaked..and at one time a KF50LTD --Concorde in a Bubinga cab--, a K60, a Constellation, and currently an el84 Komet prototype cover in ...

Any Builders in Northern VA?
Was wondering if there are any builders in the NOVA area. Would love to hear an other clone to compare and contrast and maybe get some ideas where and what to tweak. I built an express, but really am not a builder nor do I have much electronics experience..I know ..it was a bit of a reach..but I can...

Re: New VIDEO with original Trainwreck Rocket
Thanks for posting...cool to hear a real one! Though i DO like it, I guess I am a little underwhelmed by the built up expectations of people talking about it like the end all of el-84 amps...like if God decided to build an AC30 a rocket would be the result. Im not quite hear all THAT. Just a really ...

Re: Rocket Clips - Another try
Wow! Those clips sound a zillion times better! I really like the 3rd one..illustrates the string separation and chime..real nice! Sounds like you got an amp there..nice little bit of grit to it but not overpowering. Would like to hear a neck position or neck/bridge on a strat clip..bet that would so...

Re: Rocket Clips - Another try
I ran into the same thing with my big basement when I 1st started trying to record stuff..I can hear nice gain characterists in the amp though..and when you clean it up some nice voxish jangle. I put the mic about 1" from the grill cloth on my cab ..back off the input gain on my board so as to not g...

Re: Rocket Clips
Here are a couple of rocket clips from my recent build. Vol is around 1/2, treble and cut are at 12 and the bass is rolled off to 9ish. Guitar is a LP, bridge pickup. Speaker cab is a homebrew closeback with 2 Warehouse green berets - still pretty new. Pete Its kinda wierd there seems to be an almo...
