Re: 2nd Build - 5 years later - Allen Accomplice Jr
Update: Over a year later. I bought both WGS G12A & G12C last year. Then I had a 1x12 extension built to match the Allen Accomplice Jr. combo. I have always felt like both of those speakers had a little too much top end "zing" (a little too bright). Both speakers work in a one or two cab rig ... bet...

Re: Testing OT taps?
I have a sine wave generator on my iPad ... I can try that.trobbins wrote:Normally, a low input signal would be applied, eg. from a sinewave oscillator, or a mp3 file with a sine wave. Such that output voltage would have a low level of signal generated (eg. 1Vrms).

Re: Testing OT taps?
Yes, a meter set for AC volts if your going it by voltage, the higher the impedance of the tap, the higher the voltage will be by a factor of some 30%. When set to 4 ohm = 45 mV When set to 8 ohm = 80mv Measured with meter set on voltage. Red lead on + tab of speaker and Black lead on - tab of spea...

Re: Testing OT taps?
It's in the amp ... I just want to verify it ...
Am I measuring at the speaker ... not sure how to measure ... what to measure with the meter.
Thanks in advance.

Testing OT taps?
Any way to test output transformer taps to make sure which one is 8 ohm and which one is 4 ohm?

Vox AC30 kit?
I have built a Brown Note 22/33 and Allen Accomplice Jr (both detailed here). My son would like to build an amp together with me. He'd like to do an AC30 style. All I know of on that vane are the Ceriatone's. Are there any good kits out there ... maybe in the states that put together good kits? Mayb...

Re: New pickup technology?
Both my Strat and Tle guitars have an Ilitch coil. Noiseless and I can use my favorite pickups. On the Tele, OVs. On the Strat, Allen Big Cats. Best noiseless ... not cheap but my hunt is done now.
I even put a mini-switch to disengage on the Tele - it stays engaged.

Re: 2012 Standard Traditional Les Paul
Again, I'm not a fan of the 50's but this is retry good explanation. http://www.dominocs.com/ToneWorks/mod50s.html I like modern wiring, with 500k pots all around. I admit I like the taper OD RSGuitarworks Superpots on both volumes. Regular CTS tone pots are fine. Some think RSG pots are over priced...

Re: 2012 Standard Traditional Les Paul
I have a 2009 LP Traditional in Ice Tea. Stock they come with modern wiring - likely 300k vol pots and can be a bit bassy. I like the 500k+ Vol pots in it much better. 50s wiring is fairly easy change - but I did not like it. As I recall, the easiest way to test if you have 50s wiring: Set on middle...

Re: 2nd Build - 5 years later - Allen Accomplice Jr
Ok ... project is done. Off on vacation this week and spent some time "tube rolling" and "speaker rolling" too. I tried an assortment of 6V6, 6L6 and 5881 tubes. The Winged C 6L6s are my favorite tubes and turns our they like this amp too. The advantage with these tubes is ... With the 6L6 or the 58...

Re: 2nd Build - 5 years later - Allen Accomplice Jr
Congrats doveman great looking build. Which speaker did you go with? Darin Thanks! I'm going to leave the WGS G12C in it until it breaks in a little. I've already been swapping the output to the tweed 1x12 with the G12A in it. They both sound pretty good but the alnico is a bit more broken in. Ther...

Just a little goes a long way. But it's a handy option I think. I haven' really been using it so far.M Fowler wrote:Nice build.
