Re: New Princeton Reverb build--Low B+ post -GZ34

1 ohm is pretty small to be measuring.
With my meter I put a 100k in series with the 1 ohm and see if they are actually closer to spec?

Whoops, Martin beat me to it.

Re: New Princeton Reverb build--Low B+ post -GZ34

Could be, what is the total heater amperage being drawn?
4 x 12A*7 @ .300A = 1.2A
2 x 6V6 @ .45A = .9A
Rectifier = .5A, maybe.
Is this pulling over the rated amperage on the heaters?

Pull 2 preamp tubes and see if it runs better.

Re: New Princeton Reverb build--Low B+ post -GZ34

Do you have a simple schematic for your power string?
Zeus should not be IN your amp He/She/It should be coming out of it.

Re: Distortion only on reverb channel

Re-routed the preamp wires, much cleaner build now, I could still do more. Moved all preamp wires away from AC heaters, as much as possible without rewiring them. Amp has a touch less hum and a touch less hiss, very quiet, very happy with the tone now. I changed the power string dropper for the PI a...

Re: Distortion only on reverb channel

Sorry guys, I messed up with my multimeter readings! I misread the my auto switching meter when reading V3 and V4 grids, the meter switched to mv and I didn't notice and just ASSUMED it was Volts! So the real millivolts on are now in the voltage chart at the top. I am now noticing that the pots on t...

Re: Distortion only on reverb channel

Replaced the 500pf feeding the reverb driver.
Now getting only 5 mvDC on pin 2,7. Is that progress?

Re: Distortion only on reverb channel

Why would I get bouncing voltage on the V4 "mixer" tube grid?

Re: Distortion only on reverb channel

Took new readings on V3, V4 with reverb tank and footswitch hooked up to the amp.
Still reading 7 mvDC on the grids of V3(pin 2,7).
V4 now reads 0 on pin 2
V4 voltage bounces between 1.4 - 2.1 mvDC on pin 7.

Re: Distortion only on reverb channel

Virtual Design Construction survey?
Not sure what a VDC survey is?
I took voltage readings though, they are in the first post.

Re: Distortion only on reverb channel

Removed V3, no change.

Not sure of your Multimeter AC measuring technique?
What are you doing exactly?
Please explain the technique with an example measurement for myself and future readers.

Re: Distortion only on reverb channel

Some build pics. This was built by a friend waaay back in 2011-12. I have modded it and brought it back mostly to stock. I left 4.7uf bypass caps and changed some of the tone caps. Does anything scream "fix me!"? Should I gut it and rebuild with better parts? IMG_20201117_005043.jpg IMG_20201117_005...

Distortion only on reverb channel

Fender Super Reverb clone, B+ is 445. Both channel volumes on 6 using single coil strat. Normal channel sounds good. Reverb channel is very distorted. have tried: Rolling back the guitar volume cleans up the signal. Changing Input tubes(swapping with normal channel), Reverb tubes-no change, still di...

Re: Weber transformer specs

Hey Johnny, do you think the W025130 has enough mA to power an EL34 express?
It's only 150mA, that's at the limit for the EL34's, yes?

Re: Mosquito, way up there!

Much less noise. Rewired the bright caps/switch/turned the volume pot. I'll link to the genius here who may have done this first. Amp sounds great even with all the wrong parts. I ended up with a 100pf plate bypass on the cold clipper and 68k on the voltage divider...for now. IMG_20201112_201450.jpg...

Re: Mosquito, way up there!

Is this a clue? With everything on 10, the ONLY place that makes noise/oscillates when touched is the 470pf treble cap and the wires from the 470pf on the bright switch that feed the volume pot. But, When I also touch the chassis and then touch those places the amp does not oscillate. I can even tou...
