Re: Rectified b+ too low

Take this with a grain of salt, but forming new caps is a complete waste of time. It's only useful on older caps that have sat unused for a long time.

Re: Traynor YGM-3

I traded mine away a while back. I never really cared for the Bax style tone stack they used. You could crank mine up loud as hell, but it had a funky kinda bark to it, and never really got sweet when it finally distorted. But you *really* had to crank it to reach that point. Up to that point it was...

Really cool Glen. Thanks for taking the time to record and post stuff like this. Your CD is constantly in my 5 disc carousel player.

Re: Traynor YGM-3

Interesting. My old YGM-3 didnt have the V1 placement like that either. I have gut shots posted in the pictures section of the Traynor Yahoo group: if you are a member there this link will work...

+1 on what Bruciep07 said.

Not to mention, stainless is a nightmare to work with.

Re: How many people are building amps right now?

Hiwatt DR-201 clone is nearly done. Then the other three unfinished projects that are half done, plus a one wire mod to my JTM 45 for more JCM800 sound. Plus Lord knows what else...

Re: Multiple PS Caps-Effect on Sag?

I dont think there is much headroom to be found in a tweed deluxe... and any mod to increase/stiffen the power supply is gonna make it respond differently than a tweed deluxe. You might try regular solid state diodes to increase the voltages and decrease sag/squish, but it may well lose the dynamics...

Re: Brown Deluxe/Constellation build...help please...

Nice. What did you find worked best for you? I'm considering both elevating the entire heater string, or using DC for the preamp tubes... Well, to be honest, it's still a noisy amp. I plan on rebuilding it without the octal phase inverter tube. As I recall, making sure the heater string alternated ...

Re: Brown Deluxe/Constellation build...help please...

Funny... I was just about to mention, every 6SN7/6SL7 I've ever played with had noisy heaters... and required doing crazy stuff to clean up - like wiring the heaters out of phase, elevated or powered by a different source.

Congrats on finding the problem.

Re: TUBE purchase questions

Pretty much Mark - he's usually got a list of a handfull of things he has available. Helps to narrow it down to the type of tubes you are after in your initial email. Terry's a character, but knows his tubes and generally has some great stuff.

Re: Swirling phasing sound at hi output

Lots of debate and discussion over at the Gear Pages. Some of the more knowledgeable folks say it's an artifact coming from the phase inverter imbalances... If you frequent the Gear Pages, search for swirl or 'zhoosh' I believe - a phrase coined by producer/guitarist David Torn. Like most things on ...

Re: Marshall 1960a cabinet

You couldnt give me a Jensen MOD for free. Call Dave at Avatar and see what he's got a sale price on currently. A Marshall cab should have some kind of Celestion loaded in it I believe...

Even the Warehouse Guitar Speakers would be good - dont know what they cost currently...

'62 thru 64 are transition years, so there's honestly no telling for certain which circuits it might be without actually tracing them out.

Even the schematic and tube charts pasted inside the amp may not be 100% correct.

Re: Best Output Transformer

The first Express I ever played was a grey (I always assumed Stancor according to Ken) transformer model from the mid 80s. It was and probably still is owned by a guitar/electronics shop in Maryland. The owner of the amp was friends with Kenny from way back. The amp's top was also used in the shop ...
