Re: Oh no! Another bedroom amp...
I don't think numbers are huge on this - my understanding was that they do runs of 20 at a time. You only have to order one, but you'll wait until nineteen other orders are placed if you're the first. They take half down, half on delivery which is kinda weird, but my buddy took the leap of faith and...

Oh no! Another bedroom amp...
A Revenge Lil Rock appeared magically in my office a couple of days ago. http://www.recycledsound.net/indexrock.html It belongs to a co-worker. Sharp looking little thing. Haven't got to play with it much yet. I suspect a tube change would make it better. I've been promised a look at it's innards an...

Re: tone control range on a #124 build
If your friend is used to a Lonestar, I can understand why he might say that another amp's tone controls aren't effective. The one thing I took away from my limited experience with a friend's Lonestar was that the EQ was very touchy. So much so that I don't think I could find the same sound twice. S...

Re: 12AX7 H-K voltage
So Tung-sols are out - that's good to know. With quality and opinions constantly changing I never know which preamp tubes to buy, anyway. Sometimes I even take the crap shoot at the local music store. "Tubes? Yeah, we got some. We got these big ones, here, and a whole bunch of these little ones too ...

Re: 12AX7 H-K voltage
OK. I guess -176 VDC describes my situation better - I just assumed everybody would know what I was talking about. Now - if I raise the heater supply to ~100 VDC, I'll have the necessary voltage swing in either direction, but all the other tubes will be operating at max. Come to think of it, there i...

12AX7 H-K voltage
Hi all. I know the maximum H-K voltage for a 12AX7 is given as 100V, but I routinely run into designs that exceed this. My YBA-1, for example, puts about 176 volts on the cathode of the CF tone stack driver with heaters referenced to ground. That's without even thinking of signal peaks! I would imag...

Re: Intermittent problem with PAB
I spoke too soon. Changing the power tubes merely moved the note where the problem occurs one fret up the neck. I posted that the problem was solved because it wasn't happening where it did previously. Same problem----slightly different frequency. Now I'm thinking it is a bad solder joint. Have you...

Re: High Plate voltage on 6L6GC
I just had a Sovtek Mig-50 on my bench a couple of weeks ago. It was putting 560V on the plates and just a few volts less on the screens of it's 6L6s with no fireworks. The tubes that were in it were Fender branded, and I replaced them with customer-provided EHs - still no problem.

Re: Rexine as Tolex alternative?
Hahaha @ Jana's post. Could be a big hit! A friend of mine scored a large roll of bright orange upholstery cloth and has used it to cover a few cabs/other projects. Not sure what he does about corners as the stuff is quite thick, but to finish he brushes on 1 or 2 coats of clear polyurathane (hardwo...

If you're a "tube changer", then I would start with what you know - change the tube with a known good one. You might get lucky!

Re: lulu the amp repair dog
I have a buddy who has some sort of a Boxer. She howls at guitar playing, but only on bent notes. Chords & straight single notes don't affect her.
I remembered this just now because he (my buddy) leaves with extreme prejudice at the sight of a harmonica.

As long as Joe Blow has access to bigger fuses and/or tin foil all bets are off!
