Re: ODS 102 with 2x KT88s and built-in Dumbleator
Hello Matt -- RECOM makes a series of LM78xx replacement devices using switch-mode DC-DC regulation that I have found worth the trouble. Here is a data sheet for 1A "TO220" devices: R-78C-1_0 . There is no need to provide heatsink as even with higher input voltages are better than 90%. Concerns arou...

Re: Taming amp gain in single channel deluxe reverb build
Hello Ian --
Done well -- a superb clean reverb tone, with definite confident depth. Could be curious to hear what an ES335 or perhaps 250 sounds like. Upholstery is that separate hole skill set, however that appears quite commendable.
Best .. Ian

Re: Anyone else having issues with the board?
I have experienced similar. Details differ depending on the device/app and I've lacked time/patience to diagnose.

Re: Gibson GA-50 tone stack
Hello -- Perhaps you will find helpful insights via these two threads: GA50 aspirations Gibson GA50 Clone Noise Issue Pay close attention to the struggles and ultimate success in that second one. Some lessons certainly. Observations to share: In my view (and that of others who've played through my c...

Re: Modded Tremolux
Congratulations sir. -My tremolo is satisfactory, however, there's not a huge difference between the speeds. I put my frequency counter on it, and on slow my range is 3.1-6.21Hz. Fast is 3.96-9.26Hz. Would it be worth it to increase R25 to slow down the slow range a bit more? Practically, how low ca...

Re: Two 20 watt amps in one chassis - layout/grounding
Hello -- Suggestion was about overall placement, not so much the detailed layout. That era of Dynaco amps all had a PCB based construction. Would be straightforward tracing the grounding, though perhaps unhelpful in the end. They were successful using a "can" for primary HT DC power filtering. That ...

Re: Two 20 watt amps in one chassis - layout/grounding
Hello -- Recommend looking into at the construction/layout designs of latter generations of the mid-size tube stereo amps of early 1960s. The Dynaco ST-35 would be an excellent place to start, and then scan the rest for additional ideas. Sharing a power supply is fine, and can be central toward the ...

Re: Any magic in the Paraphase inverter?
Hello Dave -- Any magic in the 5E9's paraphase PI that I *must* have, or just go with the usual Long-tailed Pair? I plan to run 5881s and 6L6s in the amp. Retrofitting the PI drawn from 5E9 into a Mission kit-build 5E3 was, for me, revelatory. In the end, settled in with essentially stock 5e9 preamp...

Thanks Ian --
Makes sense with your explanation. I'd asked mostly out of pure curiosity. However, few possible additions/tweaks from the Dumble recipe book might increase utility and novelty but leave that to you for further thought.

Re: Taming amp gain in single channel deluxe reverb build
Hello Ian — Well, I bit. The transformer actually is off on all the holes by about a 1/4” so I’m probably gonna have to move it over to make it work, but when I started reading about it, it sounded like it would be more utilitarian for my kid. If it were mine I would just keep it as is.. Anyway. Tha...
