Re: intermittent 60Hz problem -- ideas? suggestions? Help
update: I ended up going for broke and replaced all four preamp sockets and filament windings. I just got done rewiring everything(!), but since I haven't eaten all day and dinner's almost ready, I may not get back to the beast until tomorrow. Then it'll be time to check voltages and what have you.....

Re: intermittent 60Hz problem -- ideas? suggestions? Help
So now I've gotta rewire the filament -- UGH. That's has to be the worst part of ampbuilding for me. HOOoooLLLEEE CRAP , dude! I can see you bent over the engine bay just rippin' parts outta this thing! Sounds like at this point it's a complete overhaul less that one silly socket. Replace that one ...

Re: intermittent 60Hz problem -- ideas? suggestions? Help
Here's the progress so far: replaced all preamp PS filter caps replaced lead from first stage blocking cap (treble cap) to treble with shielded wire replaced lead to first stage plate The new shielded wire and the new plate lead did help a little. PS caps were just fine, I suppose, because nothing c...

intermittent 60Hz problem -- ideas? suggestions? Help
Hey fellas-- I built an amp for a customer a few months ago. It's a single channel cathode-biased dual 7591 design loosely based on a Super Reverb. He plays it loud and proud on his weekly gig, and has been for the last few months with no problems. A couple of weeks ago he turned on the amp and got ...

Re: Blues DeVille PT specs
here's a link to the schem: http://schematicheaven.com/fenderamps/blues_deville.pdf judging by the voltages and tube compliment, I'm gonna guess it's something like: 650-700VCT, 200-250mA, 6.3V@3-4A, and I have no idea about the bias tap (probably just fine, though) Plate voltages are gonna be highe...

Re: Dual bias adjust
There's a layout at www.sonicdeli.com that is their version of a 50W Plexi with dual bias, but not for dissimilar output tubes.
hope this helps

Re: wire gauge on builds
I've had good success with Antique Electronics, as well as Metro Electronics in Sacramento -- can't remember their web addy, but you can look 'em up online(last time I checked, you actually have to call in an order with Metro, but they are extremely nice folks and have decent prices)

Re: wire gauge on builds
I've found 18 ga. to be a little too cumbersome. I keep a supply of 20 and 22 in both stranded and solid, both in 300V and 600V. So far, so good.

Re: Top ten reasons to build your own tube amps
how about #12: just plain sick and tired of the crap that's been manufactured for the last 10+ years -- most of the big-names' designs are too homogenized. And if that wasn't bad enough, all of the assembly work has been farmed out of American (and even British) hands and into Asia. So, yep, I'll gl...
