Re: Weber Trainwreck kit

I saw this thread the other day and debated posting, but in the end I wish I would have listened to the right person. At the time so many people were singing their praises that i figured I couldnt go wrong. I knew some forums didnt like their products but I knew that had some to do with 18watt stuff...

Re: Weber Trainwreck kit

Hi, I dont post here often, I usually have nothing to add to the conversation because of the incredibly high level of knowledge that is here. But, I do have a good bit of experience with Weber kits and parts, especially their transformers. My first amp was a Weber 6M45 kit. It was a nice kit to lear...

Re: Best Place to Buy Plexi Amp Kit?

Very true, the Weber kit was a fantastic deal. I got in on a special and paid under $400 shipped. It got me into building and their forum is wonderful

Re: Best Place to Buy Plexi Amp Kit?

My first build was a weber 6M45 kit. I replaced the pots, jacks, and tubes almost immediately, these were the worst parts of the kit. Had i known more i would have replaced the resistors, signal caps and the goofy cap board too. The transformers weren't bad but really the best parts would be the cha...

Re: Hand-Wiring AC15?

A friend brought me a broken AC15cc to rebuild. I built an X10 in it and its fantastic. I just superglued some black aluminum to the inside of the chassis to block the un-used holes. He wanted to reuse as much as possible and it came out great, the only modification I did was to the chassis, I had t...

Re: Making Vox AC30 Amps Sound Better

What about JJ EL844's from euro tubes?
I know some have flamed them, but I have a friend who is using them in an Orange AD30 and they sound really good. They will cut a few DB's and are cheaper than a power soak or attenuator. This with a nice and thick blanket might do the trick.

Re: xits x50s

I didnt catch that the 50/2 had a different inverter. I just assumed the bias and rectifier were the main differences. Thanks =) I built the AC50 with the paraphase first and just changed it to the long tailed pair today. I really think I miss the paraphase inverter though. It seemed unique. Its the...

Re: xits x50s

I cant find the picture now, but i saw a two channel one the other day. It was Vol, treb, bass/ vol, treb, bass / cut / on top and then on the back there were two more pots but i couldn't tell what they were. Im sure one of them was probably a MV.

I wonder if they kept the paraphase inverter.

Re: xits x50s

The only ones Ive seen are single input single channel. On their web site they list 12au7 for v1 and 12ax7 for v2 and v3. I just built a single channel, cathode biased ac50 for a friend and while it had similarities to the sound clips of the X50 it didn't nail it. I built it in an epiphone valve jr ...

Re: My X10 has begun

I finished the X10 on thursday and settled on a 12ax7 for v1 and 12au7's for v2 and 3. With a AX7 in v3 it was fantastic and by far my favorite, but it had virtually no headroom. With the AU7 in v3 I have way more headroom and not as much distortion but there is still plenty on tap. I really think a...

Re: Low power options

D95err I never considered power scaling. Its been a while since I looked into that. Is london power still the only ones doing it, or is there now a DIY route? Ian444 I built a bridged T attenuator a few years ago, Ill have to dig it out and try it again. It worked well and sounded pretty good, Phil_...

Re: Low power options

Sorry I didnt make it clear, the tubes I listed were ones I am thinking of as the power tubes. I just didnt word it very well  Ive seen 6BX7's and 6SH7's used as low output power tubes in hifi before, and the 12au7 in the firefly. For the preamp tubes I have tons of tubes. From all kinds of 12...

Re: Hammond amp into rocket or express???

Thanks for the replies and layout.

And thanks for the heads up on the PT. I'll have to get a zener diode to bring that down then.

Did you just use a zener, or the mosfet amplified version? What size did you use?
