Re: Asteroid 60 spitting out with gain.

The low setting on my signal device is 5.4mv which would be written .0054 using that at the input I was able to trace all the way through the preamp to 56 volts of drive into the output tube grid. My high setting on my signal device is around 200 mv. Not being sure what is going on right now , I opt...

Asteroid 60 spitting out with gain.

Well I have a head scratcher for sure. I have a newly built asteroid that has a problem I’ve never run into before. On startup all voltages matched the voltage sheet from the plans , and still do. All I can really do is lightly strum a guitar through it at a 1/4 gain setting or less. Any heavy pick ...

Re: still breathing

I wondered where you went a few times Miles. Had my own problems as well , me and the wife. Glad you popped your head back up. Glad you at least came out of it breathing. Let me know if you need any parts. I may have them.

Re: California Hiwatt "Lead 30"

Scored a lead 30 combo with reverb off eBay. There were a couple of things wrong with it as far as previous tech work and wrong values. I found a schematic online and verified it with my amp and so I will post it up here as being verified. I changed my second gain stage to a cold clipper by swapping...

Re: Hiwatt CS-30

So , continuing my documentation I discovered a couple of errors. In drawing out the circuit I realized it is almost a perfect match for the 80’s “lead” preamp at the mhuss site. Instead of the dual input go to a single one with no grid and couple it to the gain pot with a 1n cap. 220k on the plate ...

Re: Hiwatt appreciation thread - to help control my urges

No recordings yet. My wife let me get it off eBay. Imagine slightly more gain than a 50 watt Marshall while being able to cut it back and increase the master.......plus reverb. I love it. The green w/gold piping and cane grill was through mutual agreement with her. She insists all my stuff be in our...

Re: Hiwatt appreciation thread - to help control my urges

My recovered “California” Hiwatt lead 30 combo with reverb. Eventually I will replace the pc with a turret strip but for now I’ll enjoy it for a bit. Has a Naylor special design 50 watt driver in it with vintage Phillips preamp tunes and amperex output tubes.

Re: New Rocket Reverb

This is the one I wish I had back. Gobs of headroom and chime. It was last seen heading towards Sterling VA. The guy it went to appreciated it to say the least.

Finally acquired a combo version of this amp and I’m currently restoring it. Here is the traced layout and values so far in case anyone needs them.

Re: VVR Issue

Well that calmed it down a bit and allowed me to turn it all the way down. I do still get a small amount of static between the 30 to 60 % sweep of the pot. Outside of that it's dead quiet.

Awesome , I read about that but was unsure. It seemed the capacitance in my fluke calmed it down. Thanks

VVR Issue

I have a recently installed vvr that I pieced together on my own into a tweedle dee deluxe. Power resistor is 15 ohm. Everything else is to spec and the mosfet is an nte 2377. Problem is when I attempt to turn it down it gets to around 70% and the amp freaks out with an oscillation. If I probe the b...
