Re: My take on a 2nd Gen ODS

I've rolled several tubes but keep getting the same result, OD goes in and out, then out completely. I'm starting to suspect I have an error in the relay wiring. The PAB is working fine, but I would appreciate another set of eyes on the OD relay board I'm using from Taylor at AN. From left to right...

Re: My take on a 2nd Gen ODS

What program do you use to draw your circuit board layouts? Corel Draw? Now, don't laugh... PowerPoint. I've done faceplates with it too, just need to save as .pdf. No judgment from me since I still use Microsoft Paint for most things! I do need to look at Powerpoint now. There are some facep...

Re: My take on a 2nd Gen ODS

Matt, do you have a scope? If not, a meter set to measure AC might help, black probe to bus bar bar and clip the red probe to trace the signal at input jack and then after the coupling cap for each stage in the preamp. You can use a phone or tablet as a signal generator to send a sine wave in. Good...

Re: 2nd Gen Build

Thank you and yes I am pretty excited! Always fun to tweak these amps to dial them in. My long term plan is to build a low plate classic after this then a bluesmaster. Keeping everything close to stock in the beginning. At that point I will have a better feel for each amps character. Then I will loo...

Re: My take on a 2nd Gen ODS

Looks great Matt! Did you run that V2a cathode wire like that intentionally rather than looped around next to the V2b plate?

Re: 2nd Gen Build

Looks great! Remember to add the 150K from the FET as its part of the dropping string. If you don't your voltages will be higher than expected Great point, Ian. I'll solder the B+ for the FET board but won't connect the input and output yet. Right now I just have some clipped leads soldered in wher...

Re: 2nd Gen Build

Made some more progress today. Just the preamp heaters left, then smoke test, etc. Planning to get it up and running before hooking up the FET board. PXL_20240506_002804352.jpg PXL_20240506_002809632.jpg PXL_20240506_002817350.jpg PXL_20240506_002903423.jpg PXL_20240506_002946140.jpg -Dan

Re: Which Dumble model is closest to the VOX sound

Hi Franco,

This is the only bit of info I remember on this subject:

https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... ox#p424025

I don't recall any further info, discussion, or pictures since. Would be very interesting to see how HAD implemented this in an UP amp.

Here is a clip of him playing it. Interesting he is going into the FET. https://twitter.com/JBONAMASSA/status/1785004672958521497 Definitely sounds like a Dumble! It does have that singing appeal, huh? I think it's great that Joe B. tours with real Dumbles and posts videos online of him playing wit...

Re: Starting to populate the chassis....

That looks like a nice one Erwin!

For an "enthusiast" model you may consider a Hakko FX888D. It doesn't cycle off automatically but is hot in less than a minute and has temp control. You can turn it higher for soldering jacks and chassis grounds and lower for components.

Re: Starting to populate the chassis....

Hi Brian,

All good here as well. I agree with Ian, moving really slow will end up taking less time overall.

I also second the highlighter test on your schematic.

You will get there!

Best,

Dan

OMG, how I would LOVE to skip wiring the heaters.
I'll second that...
LOL count me in for a set of those wireless heaters!

Re: Starting to populate the chassis....

Immediately, I see you don't have your heaters wired up. That is typically not shown on layouts bc it is assumed the builder knows that. That would not cause your smoking resistor. The problem is likely on or under your power supply board. I suggest looking for shorts to ground first. Looks like you...
