Re: 4th gain stage, I am guilty
Ciao Roberto, the values of the components were some kind of an educated guess. I did not calculate or simulate anything. It proved me right. After building some amps, one should develop some ideas or models to help you sculpture your desired tone. BTW, thanks a lot for your valuable simulations and...

Re: 4th gain stage, I am guilty
Hi! I do keep old parts, salvaged or NOS. The coupling cap for instance is one of a kind out of the bin. :D I think, there's no wrong component, if by any means you get THE sound. Sound and taste may differ, though. Good to have a choice and to use your ears and skills to build your own. Ciao Martin...

Hi Colossal! Tonestack as follows: 470pF silver mica 39kOhm slope 2x22nF=0.022µF Pots TBM:250k, 1M, 25k I used different makes of 22nF, because of the colors. I do have more of each type. Every now and then me likes some gain. Is it the loss of hi frequencies due to getting older? Vanishing playing ...

4th gain stage, I am guilty
Hi! OK, I broke the rule. Couldn't stand one triode being wasted in my two cylinder Liverpool. Inserted it after 3rd stage. 4n7 coupler, Ra=220k(edited), Rk=4k7 (no bypass cap), 470k to ground on gate. Followed by a ... hm...hum...em...errrm HRM -there! another rule broken- full tonestack w....

Re: Teflon Hook Up Wire Euroland Sources? What Is Silicone Wire?
Hi!
Tony answered it already. I use all kinds of wire, depending on the purpose. Mostly solid core for heaters, though.
Don't worry: you'll get all the parts you'll ever need here in Europe.

Re: Teflon Hook Up Wire Euroland Sources? What Is Silicone Wire?
Hi! Most of my parts are from tube-town TT. I use silicone wire usually. Its easy to strip and takes some touch by the soldering iron w/o hurting the insulation. Right, it does not stay where you put it like solid wire. For such purposes I use push-back wire. TT and TAD have been reliable sources fo...

Re: Hiss in first preamp stage
Hi! Yeah, Glen - your right. Not more hiss/noise than a Plexi. But: does anyone play a Plexi w/o mastervolume in the same room with his ears? My low wattage build are waaay better as regards signal-to-noise ratio. The lil ECC82 PP (around 2 W) is dead silent. It's 3 gain stages, TW style. I'...

Re: Hiss in first preamp stage
Hi! That's a common problem... TWs: for gigging OK, for living room you'll be rewarded with more or less annoying hiss. It does react on tubes in V1 a bit on my liverpool 15 W. I know, they're going to shoot me...the dedicated followers of Ken. In other amps there's a 68k Gridstopper for 1st stage. ...

Re: 1 watt tube amp
@Cliff All of my ECC82 output amps. (SE and PP) use cheap line transformers. No problems yet. I do not run them with maximum B+. They are around 250-280 V. I wouldnt hesitate to use Hammonds 125 Series, though. Theyre cheap enough. I just wanted to use the line thingys. The little screamer...

Re: Tiny blues express combo / 12AU7 PP w. cathodyne PI
TNX, John 8) Somewhere in the back of my mind ("cheese and onions"...the rutles... ) there's an idea of having a small amp head with pp tubes in a V-shape ... like some Ducati motor. OK, I'm sometimes a little off-track. Being German, I could as well go "boxer", like in the older BMW bikes. ...

Re: What Speakers Do You Use in 'The Shop'?
Hi there! I mostly use a small cabinet w. an El Cheapo 10" 8 ohms 150W (approx. 92-95dB 1W/1m) PA Bass for testing. Surely lacks sparkle, but good enough for first impressions. No one needs the icepick-in-your-forehead feeling of a 103 dB speaker 2 ft. away on axis... Some additional resistors for m...

ECC powerstage feature the crammed rats nest look. Lil'Wreck (1 ECC83, 1 ECC82 w. single triode ECC82 output stage) Blues Express combo Wiring 5E3 is like a walk in the park in compari...
