Re: A3801 value?

It does seem I'm seeing more frequent reports of problems with Heyboer's lately. Mostly mechanical buzzing.

What causes this, loose windings?
I got coupe of them like that which need to be re-potted. Hum bands were loose on them as well though tighten them didn't do much.

Re: preferred bias method for Express

Just a guess on my part but the special process might be that Ken was using a specific grade of groove tubes back then which would make bias adjustment unnecessary providing you pick the same grade of output tubes. Maybe this is why the -30 bias voltage for an original Express?

Re: Looking for 20AWG / 18AWG solid 600V PVC

I got mine from MB Electronics, it's listed in the Express BOM, haven't looked a the Rocket BOM but it might be there as well...18AWG might be tight for those 9 pin sockets, 20 will do fine..

IIRC someone here posted they had Heyboer do it, not sure on the price you'd have to contact them for the details.

Re: I think I just bought some Mullards

I have some and they do sound nice and been holding up well.
Not sure what the going price is but that doesn't look like a bad deal & they appear in good condition.

You might be surprised in a good way.

Re: Favorite PVC wire

Gaz, Valvestorm sells Topcoat for $0.20 per foot & $18 for 100ft roll. It fits the description you wanted, PVC coated stranded wire, high voltage rating, pre-twisted and tinned :D IMO try the kit Jana mentioned to see if you like it before committing to a pile of the stuff provided 22 AWG is OK.
