Re: Finally

Hi Tom, It looks like I have two different things going on. First is a very audible buzz coming from the PT, enough that it vibrates the chassis. I did move the OT around some but no difference. The hum band on this iron is applied loosely, could that contribute to the buzz? I’ll probably remove the...

Re: Finally

Got to play the amp full up yesterday, wow what a beautiful noise :D Using a Marshall 4X12 with G12M 25 watt speakers and a strat with a 20 foot Mogami cord/Neutrik jacks. Tubes are an EI for V1, Amperex Bugleboy V2, and Tungsgram for V3. EL34’s are RFT that are an old set of Groove tubes Grade 5 I ...

Re: Finally

John,

Did this help? for something quick & dirty I stuffed some rubber grommets under the PT feets, very slight reduction of the vibration but the hum in the signal path remains. The PT buzz sounds like a noisy fluorescent lamp ballast ..

Thanks,
David

Re: Finally

MCK, Ah yes IIRC there was some mention here about a type of rubber washer or something under one of the PT flanges topside on Francesca perhaps for the same reason. I really don't mind some buzz & hums under the hood but not when it gets to the speakers too much.. Definitely worth a try, thanks for...

Re: Finally

Also noticed the buzzing power tranny vibrates enough it can be felt in the chassis. Wondering if it’s possible that the buzz/vibration is getting picked up and heard through the amp? What would be the next step to determine the problem? I was thinking of removing the PT to see it still has the buzz...

Re: Finally

Rooster that be mine & Tom thanks for posting them for me. Build went OK with no major flubs and does sound nice but now that I’ve had some quality time with it uh her I notice there’s some hum in the speakers with standby on or off. Also notice a buzz or mechanical hum from the power transformer. I...

Re: Finally

Thanks for the complements, really pays to go slow closely following the original layout and Ron's guide IMO.

Hi All, Finished my first Express on Tuesday ,well actually I built a spare parts Wreck years ago to try out the design and sample different iron, caps etc. I liked what the amp could do but it took me till now to build a proper version. Amp does sound and respond very nice, think I got lucky with m...

Re: Triode Electronics TW Express Kit

The kit was just released either yesterday or today. They told me they based the kit on an actual TW Express they had access to. I had questioned their MC iron it looked under powered compared to the 300mA used by others but they said it was based off an original so must be right specs. Mark Mark, ...

Re: Scratchy Pot

Steve, Yup works like a charm thanks for the tip. Good to use a punch to avoid skidding I found. I did check for dc on the pot prior to drilling, have had this happen before but it was due to a conductive board. hired hand, This was easy enough to do so it might be worth a shot before replacing an e...

Re: Scratchy Pot

I went through the same thing with a build one time. Volume worked fine for a couple of months then started getting scratchy. I eliminated everything else first since it was a sealed P.E.C. I ended up carefully drilling a small hole in the side and shot it with some cleaner and it cleared right up....
