Yeah an Express with KT66's would be awesome. And it's not about loud enough, but Tone, right!!?? My LP with 2 EL84 is plenty loud for these old ears. But I really like the KT66 sound, had a BBRI that put those in and made it a new amp.

So question: if doing the KT66's instead of EL34's in an Express would the OT be an 8K ala the Marshall era, or keep it a 6.6K TW style?

I think when I built my Rockster that has KT66's I used a 30W 5K Edcor I had. I like the sound of that...

Hey Joe, I was wondering what trannies you used on this build.
I just finished my rocket build and I like it alot, but I want something with more snarl.
I have a couple of chassis's coming in soon, and I want to build the same as yours.
From your picture the one with the PS filtering and diodes....
HV taps to each seperate diode string?

the 2- 33uf positive side goes to the 2.2K resistor on the preamp board and to each 1.5 K resistor and OT center tap?

the 2- 33uf negative side to ground?

sorry to sound like a Goof, I just cant find a schematic or a diagram anywhere I have been looking with that layout

Oh and I'm waiting impatiently for you 6v6Plexi build, cheers

Joe

I used a 260-0-260 180mA PT and a 7.6k 25W OT from Edcor.
Yes each side of the PT goes to a string of diodes which come together and then go to the 2 33uF caps.
OT center tap off there as well as continuning thru the 2.2k to the rest of the caps.
Basically same power supply I used for my Fowler Rocket with a lower supply PT.
After the 2.2k is the connection to the plates thru those 1.2k resistors.

HTH...

Thanks Joe, I know you and Mark gave me this info....I couldn't get my head around the fact that the rocket is tube rectified and your build is SS...I get it now.sorry to be dense.....lol (at myself).

No problem, I used the stuff I learned here to build "my" amp based on the Rocket.
Some of the builders here make amazing clones of the TW amps if that's of interest to you. Look around you'll see them, fantastic builds!
So plenty of choices around here, and lots of knowledge too.

Enjoy...
