Express #2 -Sadie

Post by DeLuxe »

Let week I put up pics of build #1, "Shelby". When I found the lumber for that build I was able to get 4 cabs out of it. So here's #2 early in the process. I'm doing a french polish on this one also and went with the British bulldog thing on the faceplate. What do you think?

Great looking cab... are you going to build the amp the same way as the last one?

Last time I was able to get 6 pairs of boards out of the garolite sheets I bought so I am definately going to use those. I'm open to other transformers but liked the MMs. It might be worth it just to have first hand experience with another set just for comparison sake. I was totally happy with #1. I've 2 more to build after this one to use up my cabs so I could do each with a different set and do a shoot out. All with the same parts/layout just using different transformers...

I did some recordings of #1 but could never get them to upload here. After doing them I regretted not focusing more on 3/4-full volume to hear all of the full-on overdrive characteristics. Sound samples are hard to record especially by yourself. I'd like to record another round where I can do more dial spinning while someone else plays at full volume. The cuts I took were probably a little too timid!

Awesome looking headcab!
What technique do you use to get the "burst" effect.
Very, very cool!

Thanks! I am using two of StewMac's stains each mixed with grain alcohol and sprayed on with an airbrush. Then spraying shellac that started as flakes and dissolved in alcohol. Couple coats then allowing it to cure before starting the french polishing build up of shellac layers. I used to do quite a bit of airbrush in another life so I was already used to spraying and blending colors. I find that I can get great results without a proper booth.
