Re: Joe Bonamassa playing a dumble...
I said it in another thread about JB, but I have to repeat it. He seems to be able to channel different guitar gods based on what guitar he is playing.
Picks up a Tele and there are definitely some tribute licks to Roy Buchanan.
And that amazing array of guitars and amps. Not sure I could even afford to keep the strings fresh on all those guitars.

Hmm the clip sounds killer though. Beth Hart is really a great singer too. Nice tribute to Etta James (RIP).

When you're a mo'fessional you can use your gear as a write off. Nice little nest egg that you can enjoy before you retire. Who needs a gold standard when you have a sunburst standard.
Thanks for sharing that video. I didn't care for JB before, might be converted to a part time fan now that he's got some tone. He should play fenders more often. I heard a bit 'o Roy in there too.

Wanna gut shot?steve_p wrote:So I was reading over on Joe Bonamassa's forum about a small gig he played the other night in CA.
He used ODS #104, made in 1981 as one of his amps for the show. One person stated that it was his, not borrowed.
One person posted a few pictures, including this one:

Re: Joe Bonamassa playing a dumble...
That video of Joe playing the strat was from 2000, so 12 years ago when he was still playing Fenders.
At the Joe B forum he explains why he has switched to humbuckers and LP's.
He said whenever he played his strats he was compared to SRV and Hendrix.
He wanted to be known more for his own tone and found it hard to do with the strats so he started playing the Gibsons.
I think he has found his tone and the John Henry album plainly shows that.
He didn't mention the animosity towards Fender and the failed signature gold sparkle strat.
Reportedly there was some talk with Fender to issue a sig strat for Joe and he thought his gold sparkle would be a good choice since he was closely associated with that guitar and played out with it a lot.
Fender turned him down but later came out with a reissue of the gold strat with no association to Joe.
That reportedly ticked him off and he is said to have made a rule about no Fenders on his stage.

That was a rather dickish thing to do and man, what a failed opportunity on Fender's part. Joe is a great player, has a huge following both musically and with gear heads. Now he's got a signature Gibson too. I definitely prefer his humbucker guitar and violin tone.Structo wrote:Fender turned him down but later came out with a reissue of the gold strat with no association to Joe. For the record, #104 does not belong to Joe. It belongs to a well known guitarist in Los Angeles and is a friend of mine. I serviced this amp for him. He was offered 50K by Joe, and he turned it down. He let's him use it though and is a testament to their friendship which is very cool.
The owner of this amp, and I performed at the LSL NAMM booth this year and discussed the amplifier at length. He decided that selling it would be a mistake because after the money is gone, there would be nothing to show for it and certainly would never be able to afford to buy it back or another one like it.
I was happy to hear this from him and I agree. You only live once!

I have question: Who pays for the borrowed amp if it is stolen? Borrowing that kind of stuff sounds like a recipe for disaster.
